Injury during plebe summer>>

Just wondering>>>What happens when a plebe gets hurt like REALLY badly during plebe summer? Like shatters a knee or breaks a neck?
Thanks

There was a kid who had some sort of neck surgery over plebe summer and he was in a neck brace and on light duty the entire time, so it happens. I know a girl who messed up her hip and was on crutches for the entire summer. Unless it's really severe, like you're in a coma or something they probably wouldn't roll you back. But it's happened, one of the squad leaders 1st set had 2 plebe summers

Thanks for the reply, helps.

I am aware of two circumstances that may be of interest.

During plebe summer, plebe falls of the ropes and shatters a leg bone; pretty serious break as I understood it. As described, placed in c ast and hobbled through remainder of summer. Permitted to continue. Had to work extra hard to pass the PRT.

Plebe had a medical problem during the fall. Had surgery which went bad; worse than might have ordinarily been expected. Returned home--on medical leave adn treated by nearest military hospital. Decision was made that he could return the following year and would not have to repeat plebe summer.

Sounds like the USNA really wants to keep us. Thanks again!

coltonzors you need to knock on some wood :-)

Good to know -- but hopefully none of us will have to seek more medical attention than a bad blister!

Hopefully so but I would like to try and avoid the blisters to. Last year at football camp I wore ankle socks (terrible, terrible idea - maybe thats why they require you to motivate your socks as a plebe) and got a blister that was probably an inch to an inch and a half in diameter on my heel. I couldn't walk/run for like a week without severe pain. Won't be that stupid ever again.

Okay, I must confess that sometimes I stop over here just to see what's going on (D is going to USAFA)...anyway, I was stuck on the phrase above, "motivate your socks"! At first I thought it was a typo, then figured it had to mean something so I went searching. I love Google. Here's what I found:

"Among the many things Plebes are sometimes asked to do by squad leaders is telling a new joke every day. Some parents have helped by sending joke books to keep up with their required joke-telling. Sometimes plebes forget simple things, such as upside down name tag, cover, etc. One particular day a certain plebe forgot to "motivate" his socks (you know, pulling them all the way up). The squad leader, totally frustrated, yelled "Plebe *****, motivate your socks, without touching them!". The squad leader just didn't want him to bend over and pull them up with his hands. So what does the plebe do.....he looks at his socks and yells "Hooray socks"!!! The squad leader finds this so motivating he asks the plebe's classmates, "What are you doing over there? Come help your classmate motivate his socks!" Just imagine what that looked like....a bunch of plebes yelling at another plebe's socks...."Hooray, Socks!!!!"

Sorry to get off topic. I had never in my life heard that phrase and was very intrigued and thought this story was so cute! :)
