Input please?

Hey guys,

After lurking around CollegeConfidential for quite some time, I've come to realize that the large majority of high school users' statistics are much more respectable than mine. Currently, I am a junior and am just beginning my college search, yet now I am unsure if my statistics will suffice to any of the colleges I am interested in after looking at everyone else! I consider myself an average student with a drive to learn, though I just don't know how competitive I will be in the college admission process. I am a full IB student at a STEM school with a 3.85 weighted GPA. My first time SAT score is very weak (1750), yet I plan to increase that score to atleast an 1850 (if possible). As far as EC's, I am in Model UN, HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America), and play varsity soccer. I have almost 80 hours of community service, which will likely go up during senior year given that I need to complete my CAS, if you are familiar with the International Baccalaureate Program. Anyways, what do you guys think? Do I have a shot at some/any of these colleges?

University of Pittsburgh
University of Delaware
Drexel
University of Michigan
Purdue
Villanova
Bucknell
Virginia Tech
Penn State

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys

Bumpppppppp

Try posting this to the chances forum.

You DEFINITELY have a good chance at Penn State. I can’t see you getting rejected there (although it may depend on which school in the chain you apply to).

I think you have a good chance at UDel and Drexel as well, but I do see a possibility of rejection at them. Your SAT scores are right in the range that the schools generally accept. Of course, there is more to the admissions process than test scores and GPAs, but you’re definitely a contender for admission.

Keep in mind that most of the 2400 4.0 10,000 extra-curricular activities and awards people usually aren’t trying to go to the schools you’re interested; a lot of them are aiming for the most elite schools. The schools you like are prestigious as well, but they’re more for the average or above-average-but-not-perfect students, which is essentially what you are.
I’m not extremely familiar with the rest of the schools, but you seem to be in their ranges as well from a quick glance on CollegeBoard. Michigan and Bucknell seem like the biggest reaches, but they’re not by any means impossible.

I hope I helped. Good luck!
