The study showed that participants who were asked to drive after smoking marijuana were more attentive and made fewer errors than sober participants who were driving with a passenger.

So as long as you drive high alone, you’re good?

Precisely!

Honestly I think very few college students, who aren’t either: very religious, set on a law enforcement job, or no social life outside of a TV screen, don’t smoke pot from time to time. Obviously, as you can tell from the replies your getting many college students seem to act that weed is G!ds gift to the world, and has no adverse effects. I think thats BS. Sure weed, is minimally physically addictive, but that doesn’t mean people can’t become very hooked psychologically on the feeling of being high.

Personally, I view weed the same as alcohol, is there anything wrong with having a few drinks on a weekend no, but drinking a lot every day is obviously bad. The same goes for weed. Moderation is the key.

If your son is getting good grades, I wouldn’t really worry about his use. For every person that drops out of school because of weed, many many more just outgrow it eventually.

I wouldn’t try to get him to quit as long as he keeps his GPA up, most likely he’ll just “mature” out of it when he gets older.

Where you grew up determines a lot about how many people smoke weed. At my high school, hardly any one did (and it was a public school). At the high school 20 minutes south of us nearly everyone smoked. Now either we are all religious shut ins or not everyone smokes weed.

sorry. I guess I need to qualify my statement. I’m coming from northern california, where weed has been decriminalized and a ton of people smoke, and those that don’t did.

It probably is less “main-stream” in other parts of the country, I didn’t mean to offend anyone.

Oh your from California?

No worries. It’s your nature to be out of touch with the rest of the nation.

Nice. I thought I apologized if I insulted anyone. Why is it that people seem to go on internet forums, designed to help people, and then try to engage in pointless flame wars? Everyone is xenophobic to a certain degree, but no need to randomly insult people online. Also, considering 37 million Americans live in California ( thats almost 20% of the US population) I don’t think California can exactly be discounted as fringe.

I’d think you’d find we’re (for the most part, there are some wacko-hippies around here) a lot more like “normal” Americans than you might think…

Haha well put.

California = hippies!!!

I think I can safely claim victory, since my opponent has resorted to using mathematical symbols and large amounts of exclamation points :)

I concede…

I blame my loss on not having Arnold as my governor

I will smoke a bowl to this situation.

Best of luck OP!

thanks, I know it just bothered me, and I have a 12 yr old at home who is soooo against drugs of any kind…

thanks, well said, after all he is an adult so it’s his body after all and his choice, no longer mine.

I think the young folks who’ve answered have been quite articulate and well thought out. While I don’t know how I feel about it still, I am very humbled by your admission and insight. I am less bothered by it that’s for sure. And will not worry so much about it.

I do not smoke pot, but many of my friends at home do. None of my college friends smoke.

One of my good friends from home had been smoking weed for years and was also selling it for a while. Then, two things happened. First, he got into an accident while driving high. Second, he got caught by the cops. Those two things really changed his perspective and helped him realize that his smoking was leading to dangerous behavior, stuff he didn’t want to do. He said later that he didn’t feel like himself anymore.

Honestly, I don’t know what makes students quit. Usually, I think it’s some kind of a harsh wake-up call.

I used to smoke almost everyday when i was a sophomore in high school. I haven’t smoked since the beginning of my junior year. So it’s been almost 3 years now.

The reason why I quit was sports. I played 3 sports in high school. In my freshmen year I didn’t smoke that much but when I started smoking in sophomore year I got kicked out of the baseball team and almost got kicked out of both basketball and football teams. That’s when I realized I’m messing my body up.

So that’s how I stopped. If they’re in to sports they might wanna think about that.

Or maybe they could start lifting weights. I had a couple friends who quit smoking after they started working out.
