Insisting in scholarships

My D talked with admission office about the merit scholarship offered (not applying for financial aid) and they said that since the application for the scholarship goes to different committees and they are not processed at admission office, there is no differences for the ones already admitted in EA and the rest of RD. I would like to see this in practice so, has any of you current students, gotten a merit scholarship besides Ervin during or after EA? Don’t you think you burn your chances of getting a merit scholarship without applying for financial aid if you apply early?

Answered that in my PM - RD = Danforth & I know of quite a few others with merit money that applied RD. Although merit scholarships are very competetive and the number of applicants has increased considerably over the last year. But for those that end up in a Scholars program, it is very worthwhile. These programs are not only about the money, although important, but also the many other opportunities and programs offered as part of the Scholars programs. Apply for as many as you feel fit your scenario - not only gives a better chance of being named a Scholar, but also demonstrates interest.

Thank you, I know that for my own experience with my S, but he applied RD, and I can't find a single student that has applied EA with a merit scholarship, and I wonder if they exist.

I know of several in the Danforth program and some others. PM me if you want more details.

I applied ED and was awarded a Danforth Scholarship - I didn't believe admissions when they said that they ignore ED and RD when deciding merit scholarships but I was happy to be proved wrong :)

Thank you blue_green! and congratulations!

what is the danforth scholarship, because it's not listed on the overview sheet on WashU's website.

Although I'm not sure what the Danforth scholarship is, I would like to point out that there are other scholarships not on that list. Those are just the scholarships that need their own applications. By just applying to the school (if you checked the yes! Financial Aid! Box (or whatever it was)) you are eligible for some scholarships to.
