What an address to her people! “We should take comfort that while we may have more to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”
The King’s Speech is a favorite of mine. Her father would be proud.
It felt like a lecture from someone who has seen a heck of a lot of things – good, bad and indifferent – and her maturity helps calm us all down. Not just Britains.
The tone was exactly right. It managed to be somber and optimistic at the same time.
“We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”
I really admire the Queen. She is not only a touchstone to past British history but she’s someone all British people can feel connected to since she is apolitical.
Please don’t judge me… I think this is probably the first time I hear her speak.
Her English is very beautiful and easy to understand for me! I’m used to American English and sometimes have difficulty understanding English accents from other countries.
I just watched the documentary Amy. Boy that was difficult!
(Trainspotting was impossible)
I love the queen! She has spent a lifetime serving dutifully to her country. I can only dream that at 94 I could be as eloquent and beautiful as she is. Her message was just perfect. Her birthday is this month and she won’t be able to have her usual celebration.
I found her remarks inspirational, poignant, and uplifting. She is in her 90’s as is her husband. She is still very sharp and clearly committed to being a leader and serving her people. She is well beyond the age when most people are retired and kicking back. She continues to do what she can to lead. She has endured hardship in her life, as well as many blessings. God Save the Queen!
Such a poignant moment yesterday as the Queen performed her first royal duty since the pandemic- the knighting of a 100 year old man! The pictures and film of it are lovely.
@sevmom Wonderful! Each inspirational leaders, devoted to their country and its people. Lessons to be learned…
BTW - for anybody who is unfamiliar with this story, Capt. Tom pledged to walk 100 turns of his garden in the weeks leading up to his 100th birthday; his intent was an effort to raise one million British Pounds for the public health service, by way of ‘thanks’ the the thousands of workers of the public health service, for putting their lives on the line during this pandemic - he ended up raising almost forty times that!!! 38million British Pounds !!! We should have had a thread about him. It was wonderful to see him inching his way every day, on his walker, to the 100th lap.
The Queen still doing her duty just a couple of days ago. The family is gathering so it may not be long. But she is strong so maybe not! All good thoughts for the Queen and her family.
