Instate and Out of State

We live in Illinois and my son go to Illinios university schools. We are planning to move to Texas for personal reasons. Can he continue to enjoy in sate tuition or considered as out of state? Appreciate any thoughts on this.

I was in this situation, and I emailed the registrar’s office to ensure my residency would remain regardless if my parents moved out of state. In my case, they said my instate residency would not be changed if that was how I enrolled. Since policies may differ, I would contact your son’s university’s registrar’s office.

Each state and each school may have a different policy for residency and in state tuition policy. So you should ask the school directly. For instance, UMich would grant in state tuition rate to any student who went to high school in Michigan for 3 years before graduation disregarding their resident status.

Planetgreen…you need to check with YOUR kid’s Illinois college. Policies vary from place to place.

Which public university in Illinois does he attend?
