Instate Residency Question

My daughter was accepted to the VCU Arts School and we are out of state residents and we are trying to decide on if we can afford sending her to VCU. I think we can do it if she were able to get residency after a year or two of going there. How difficult is it to get instate residency at VCU and more importantly what is the process or what have you done to successfully get residency? Any feedback especially from those who have gone through this process would be greatly appreciated… I have tried calling the school but have yet to get an answer (left 20 or so voice messages)

Thanks in advance

No, she won’t be a Virginia resident. If she is your dependent, her state of residence is derived through her parents. A student can’t become a Virginia resident if the reason she’s in Virginia is to attend college.
