Just wondering if anyone can talk about the instrumental jazz program at UArts. It seems great on paper, and wish my son had had the time to visit, but I think it will have to wait for his audition for the visit. He has already submitted his application!

jazzmom, you might find people who can answer your question on the Arts Major discussion thread. This is the musical theater major discussion thread, so it's doubtful many here will know much to share. Good luck!

This might help by giving you a jazzy taste of some UArts talent.

Mainstage, thank you for that link. I will share it with my son as well. I actually asked questions about UArts in the Music thread, but no one responded, and when I saw the school being discussed here, I was very interested to hear about it, even from the perspective of musical theatre students. The jazz faculty is certainly impressive, and the atmosphere at the school seems to be very energized and happy. All good things.

While my daughter is a Musical Theater student at UArts and therefore I can't share with you a parent's perspective about the instrumental jazz program, I happen to work professionally with musicians who play with all of the major orchestras in Philadelphia. I have spoken to several musicians who teach at UArts and they speak very highly of the instrumental music program. These are world class working musicians who earn a full time living as players and who know what they are talking about.
