I've been curious about this school for a while. I haven't heard too much about it, and have been trying to decide if it's worth auditioning for. I'd love any help with this!

There are quite a few references to UArts on the Musical Theater Majors forum. Search for UArts or University of the Arts.

My son was planning on auditioning for UArts for jazz instrumental (guitar). Also know very little about the school and only going on the faculty list and the seemingly lively scene for musicians there. It's good to have a range of schools so that several choices are available to you. This college is unique in that it is an arts community that includes so many different kinds of creative students. It just seemed worth looking into. I'm sorry we haven't been able to visit yet--maybe you could visit before auditioning.

I've sung with Jeffery Kern, their Director of Vocal Studies, and he's one of the best directors I've even sung for in terms of both communication from the podium and pure musicianship.

That said, in this area, Westminster Choir College, Temple, and West Chester (in that approximate order) all have much stronger reputations. UArts is mostly viewed as a jazz school, fairly or otherwise.

Thanks! A couple summers ago I was in Philly and we stayed very close to the school, so I poked around a bit. Lovely area of the city. But thank you don9992. I will look into those schools pronto. :)
