Integrated MPA at McCombs

I am wanting to do the integrated MPA program at McCombs. In that program does the undergrad degree have to be in accounting or can it be in another business discipline like finance? Also if it can be finance, would that be an ok degree plan to pursue if my goal is to do audit at a big 4 accounting firm?

You can do any business degree for the undergrad, but accounting would probably be best if you want to do auditing at a big four firm.

That’d be a horrible idea. You’d get destroyed in your MPA level courses without a very good accounting major foundation. Just minor in finance.

Most firms will expect anyone with an MPA to also pass the CPA exam. Even though a degree in accounting isn’t required to sit for the CPA exam, a certain number of accounting hours above a certain level are required as well a total of 150 credit hours. It will be difficult to pass the exam without the proper courses.
The degree plan/required courses for the MPA are posted on the UT accounting webpages.

Andrewt, as you can see, majoring in Accounting would probably be the best option for you if you want to work at a Big Four firm. I’m also aiming for the MPA program, so if you get in, PM me!

“Just minor in finance.”
I was unaware that you could minor in business disciplines… This is definitely what I will do, thanks. Anyone know why business majors are only allowed to minor in one subject?
