Thanks for the inside information, armavirumque. The class sounds awesome... I can't wait!

is there a reason that you're taking 214 before 203?

I've heard that MAT 214 is a better class to introduce potential math majors to the math department at Princeton than 203. They can be taken in either order, though.

I'm not sure what you mean, ilovemath - 'the math department' meaning the way they teach? or the professors?

"The math department" is a big friendly bear who lives in the basement of Fine and enjoys number theory and lollipops.

There'll be a maths open house (where you get to go up in the faculty lounge on the very top of Fine hall) sometime in the first week, I think. There're suggested course orders and information for majors there, and you can talk to professors about the courses you should (or want) to take.

Mea, I guess I mean both. MAT 203, according to a few of my sister's friends that I have talked to, tends to make people dislike the math department because the professors who teach it / the course material are not as interesting as for other math classes (including 214).

arma - I like the sound of that math dept : ).

ilovemath - ah yes, that makes sense. I used to really like history class until I got landed with a teacher who killed it for me.

By lollipops, I think arma means BLOOD of juicy UNDERGRADS.

Just kidding ;-)

shakes in my undergrad boots : / haha

i was looking at the integrated science program, but on the FAQ it says that the program isn't really designed for incoming pre-med students, which i am. i figure i'll be taking alot of science classes at some point in my studies, and the program seemed to cover most bases, so i'm kinda torn. any other pre-med people who are/were thinking about the program and want to share their thoughts?

Basically they say that it may not be the best for premed students because they havent gone around and asked all of the medical schools what they thought of it. However, the hpa ppl were pretty positive about the program. the only question was that you might have to take orgo as well as the second year of integrated science (if you continue on the track) for the first year, they were pretty sure that everything counted, and said that they would write it in their recommendation-letter all about the course. Basically, the professors want to discourage the stereotypical premed kid (the competitive one who cares about grades, not about learning) from taking the class. But there are many kids in the class who are planning to be premed, and most of the class was planning to be premed at the beginning of the year

i'm planning on doing pre-med and applied for and hopefully will be taking the course.

i'm super excited but definitely a little apprehensive. i just hope i don't die.
