I'm probably going to be working on a submission to the Intel STS competition. However, in order to qualify for my school's cohort I need to submit an essay in advance on either inventiveness, creativity or initiative. My problem? I can't think of anything to write about!
The problem is that while I really love science (biology, though chemistry is also pretty cool), I only got into it in high school (as my elem's science program was abysmal) so I don't have an awesome background and I got into it rather late. I "found myself" too late, in fact, to reference my childhood for the most part. I have had prior interest in psychology (due to encounters with mental health professionals, not serious but they existed, which I'd really rather not bring up at a national competition) and my project will probably be in social science, but I'd like to reinforce my new image as a person interested not only in psychology, but also in biology and science in general.
What do you guys suggest?
TIA!!!

Talk about a current problem (such as global warming, water shortage, etc.) perhaps? Or if you’re already doing research then you could bring that up. I never did Intel STS although I know several people who have, including Evan O’Dorney (who won STS a couple years ago).

They usually want personal stuff, like my relationship with science. I haven’t started research, but like I said I don’t think it would help.
