Intellectual Culture

What are some schools that have an intellectual culture comparable to that of Reed or UChicago?

Swarthmore, Haverford.

Bryn Mawr (if you're Y-chromosome free)

Unfortunately, I am a guy lol. I'm looking to go Northeast if possible, but I don't have to be.

I'm actually at UT now, but I'm wondering about transferring. The schools have to give transfer scholarships too...or be state schools.

Bard, Skidmore, Middlebury, Cornell.

Add Wesleyan

Swarthmore for sure.

You may find what you are looking for at UT in upper division classes.

Amherst, Williams -- though I'm not sure how much scholarship money any of these schools have for transfer students

Whitman, Oxy, Lewis and Clark.

Do any schools generally have money for transfer students?

Closest overlaps:

LACs: Carleton, Swarthmore, Wesleyan

Uni's: Columbia, Princeton, Yale

I have a big crush on MIT, but it's a different kind of nerdculture from Reed and Chicago.

I'd also add St. John's and Grinnell into the mix.

Any state schools?

Michigan and Berkeley definitely have an intellectual vibe to them. It's not as overt as Reed or Chicago, but with so many students on campus you're going to find some really intense ones.

Perhaps also New College of Florida and Evergreen State.

How about SUNY Geneseo?

I know some Geneseo alumni who got involved intellectually there. I don't know enough about Geneseo, but I imagine it's going to be a good place for a Reed/Chicago person. I really like Bing, plus it was closer to my home, though I think Geneseo is a better school overall.

bump for more info!
