If you really hate Union, why not do your sophomore year in Alaska? It seems silly to pay $$$ to torture yourself.
@akhipstertrash - Have you looked at Smith?
Most of these suggestions or ideas aren’t realistic with a 3.0 college GPA, or even a 3.2.
What is your financial situation?
I’m not sure how many transfers Smith gets and perhaps they will look at your whole history. Not sure. It if it is anything like the other schools in its academic group (ie. Really really high) there is essentially zero chance as a transfer with a 3.2 without some other factors. IMHO.
I would be looking at larger state flagship schools with great diversity and definately focused students. Not all but you can find your group
To be specific, Mudd is not possible. They took zero transfers for this fall. I don’t see Rose Hulman as a preferable option for the OP, either. Agee that a larger state U is a better idea.
You’ll find anti-intellectual attitudes on any college campus. There will always be students who don’t care about school, and who are there only because they’re expected to be. I’d say you need to find a somewhat selective, diverse, and progressive environment, but that pretty much describes what I’ve read about Union. But yes, Union strikes me as very preppy and not a little snooty. A bigger school might not necessarily be better: you’d have more diversity, but you’d also absolutely run into a laissez-faire attitude toward school from a lot of the student body, simply because of the larger population.
University of Wyoming would probably work for your stats, but I don’t know if it’ll come up to your other standards. Good luck!
UWyoming isn’t going to cut it for a liberal west-Coast type. It isn’t small (most colleges with engineering aren’t), but what about Oregon State?
You started an identical thread 3 weeks ago and got many responses. Why a second thread?
@TomSrOfBoston It looks like it was merged overnight anyway, but the responses I got last time (outside Cal Poly Pomona and WPI) mostly went nowhere. As stated in my (now deleted) new post, I don’t want to end up somewhere with even worse students, since this would completely defeat the purpose of transferring.
With a 3.0 GPA your options are extremely limited.
