Intended major issue

I’m an international student applying to the ivy league and other T20 schools.

One of my teachers has already submitted his recommendation letter and i had told him my intended major was psych (so it most likely says that in the letter too). I have now decided that i would like to major in history (as i like it more and it lines up with EC’s better), with either a double major (or minor) in psych. My other rec letter will be from my history teacher, so I would want her to write that my intended major is history. Does it look bad if my rec letters list different intended majors??

In the specific school questions I will list my top major choise as history and second as psych.

That shouldn’t be an issue. Many students change their minds.

Be sure though that you don’t need a LOR from a STEM teacher.

Many top schools prefer to see a LOR from a humanities teacher and a STEM teacher. I don’t necessarily think letters from two humanities teachers is a deal breaker, but if you feel you’ll get a strong rec from a STEM teacher, it’s worth considering.

I wouldn’t worry too much about what you asked here. If it’s convenient for the teacher, you could nicely ask, but again, not a deal breaker.

If your question is - you told one your major is history and the other your major is psych, I don’t think it will matter.

The school will know your intended major if you provide one.

The recommendation letter is about you, not your major.

Who the recommenders are may matter (subject wise). But both will be writing about you.

btw - if you are using an app manager (Common, etc.) you can get another letter and just choose the letters you want submitted to that school.

Good luck.

I’m sure that the colleges will understand, especially if your essays or short replies in the application indicate that you’re interested in both history and psychology. The colleges know that students change majors all the time.
