I read some threads at another college search website that said that the academic workload was very intense and stressful, and the students refer to it as "Work Forest". I realize that this information may represent a minority opinion. However, my son is interested in Wake Forest and he's not sure what the real situation is.

Understanding that it is a selective, high quality college, and that college by nature can be stressful, do you feel that this is accurate representation? What is your experience? Is the student body competitive with each other? Do faculty expect more than the students feel they can handle? Is there a balance; some time for recreation?

Sure it is stressful, but I think Wake Forest is one of the most well-rounded institutions in the country. Probably the two most stressful majors seem to be Pre-Medicine/Biology and Finance/Accounting. But by no means do we just do school work all the time. Do not let that misleading “Work Forest” title deter you.

It got the reputation of Work Forest because people were comparing the work they do at Wake to the amount of work done by their friends at state schools like UNC, Clemson, and UVA (large class sizes = more grading for teachers = less total assignments). Wake is close to on par with other top private universities or LACs though as far as workload.
