I've come across a few well known intensive summer language programs like Middlebury College, Mills College, and the Monterey Institute....but I was wondering if anyone else knew of some other well-renouned intensive summer language programs. I've recently been accepted into a few IR grad school programs in which you are required to have the basic knowledge of a foreign language. I'm currently studying French and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts? Thanks.

I’m in exactly the same situation. I’ll be doing either the Middlebury program or the Institut de Francais in France, preferably the latter as I don’t want to be in a language program with a bunch of undergrads partying it up during the summer.

BTW - the Mills College program IS the Middlebury program, just on the West Coast.

Perhaps you should do a little more research about the types of students who study at Middlebury in the summer.

From the college’s website:

Any other intensive summer language programs?

Hands down, UVA has the best intensive summer language program in the country. You can do 2 year of language in 8 weeks. However, prepare for the most grueling and expensive experience of your life–oh, and in the worst climate ever.

Ditto on the UVA program. Very well done and grueling.

I would also happen to highly recommend the Universit
