Was wondering if there is any interaction with kids from UH as far as the social scene goes. Haven’t spent a ton of time in HOU, so I’m curious.
Very little. The schools are vastly different intellectually and not especially close geographically.
No. U of H is a large, urban campus located on the south side of Houston. U of H is about a 30 minute drive from Rice. Most of Its students are commuter students. U of H’s standards of admission are not particularly high. U of H has big time sports, especially football and basketball, that draw large crowds of students. U of H has a law school and many graduate programs as well as undergraduate offerings. Rice is the opposite. It is located in the center of Houston in the museum district. The main focus of Rice is on undergraduate education. The vast majority of Rice students live on campus and do not have cars. U of H has the Greek system while Rice does not. Rice has the residential college system instead. Rice has very high admissions standards. Rice students’ participation as sports spectators is low. Rice occasionally plays U of H in football, and Rice is usually trounced in the contest.
I used to live in Houston and know the area well. Both Rice and UH are located within the 610 “loop”. So they are only about 15 mins apart from each other via car. But Houston is a very large city, and many students go out and experience the city: food, museums, restaurants, etc. So the UH and Rice students will definitely run into each other. But probably not socialize together unless its part of a larger event.
My daughter is in her last semester at Rice and doesn’t even know where the university of Houston exactly is of that says anything. But she is aware that it exist. Mostly she is to busy studying to do many other things
