Interesting ACT vs. SAT scores, tell me what you think.

(I posted this on the College Admissions discussion as well, but though it would be relevant here as well)

I need to decide what to do with my test scores. When compared, they are a little interesting:

SAT: 1880 (After 3 tries, although best scores all from one day)
Math- 720
Reading-590
Writing-570

ACT:30 (First try)
Math-30
Reading-34!
English-29
Science-26
Writing- Not Yet Available

I did sign up to take the SAT one more time, but before I saw my ACT scores.

(Another note, I want to major in Political Science)

Some questions....
1. Send both scores or just ACT?
2. Retake ACT? (Applying ED so deadline cutting it close)

Love to hear your opinions, thanks in advance.

Just send ACT. Your ACT score is good, but your SAT reading score (and writing score) is very low. It depends where you’re applying, but unless it’s somewhere super-competitive I don’t think you NEED to retake. But if you think you can do better then go ahead.

I am applying ED to George Washington University.
Other schools include: University of Maryland CP, American, George Mason, Pitt, Penn State

i think if it was your first try at the ACT, you can do better?

it all depends on your coursework this yr… i’m a senior too and its pretty busy with college application essays, hw, and tests… if you are content with your ACT score, i suggest you don’t retake and spend more time working on your college application essays…

If your essay score on the ACT is really low like a 6 or something it might counteract your 30 at universitities that look at the writing portion. If you have like less than an 7-8 on the writing your ACT might just mean around a 1900 anyway at specific universities.

Thanks for the replies. I have decided to try the ACT again in October (although I’m not sure if it will be in time for the deadline, but a 30 seems good enough). I will be switching my SAT registration to Subject Tests.

Also, my essay score is a 10, which to me seems pretty good.
