Interesting Boarding Documentary

I'm not affiliated with the documentary in anyway, so this isn't advertising, but if it isn't allowed of course please delete this thread.

A few weeks ago I found a British documentary that, as I couldn't find any threads related to, I assumed most of you hadn't watched. It's called Leaving Home at 8 and is available on youtube. If anyone has the time to watch it, I would recommend it. Message me for the link or search it up yourselves.

It's about a group of four girls from British military families who are sent to a boarding school at the traditional (but now increasingly uncommon) age of eight. The filming is supposedly for their first year, but is mainly focussed on their first month or so with the ending filmed at Christmas.

I think that, despite their young age and limited choice, their experiences are common with all boarders- and I think the parents really express what a lot of parents on this site feel!

So, if any of you watch it, I felt it made a good discussion point.

My dad started boarding aged 9 (his choice) then continued boarding the whole way through school. One if his brothers started boarding at 13 (very normal then) and the third brother never boarded. It’s interesting how different kids view this sort of choice.

A second interesting documentary is Britain’s Youngest Boarders. This one is about three boys. Also very interesting but much more positive.
