Okay, this is actually the situation of someone else close to me, but I thought I'd ask all the bright young minds that frequently peruse this thread.

I know someone who is currently a freshman at school out-of-state. They are a California resident, after a year of being out-of-state they realized their school/major wasn't the right choice for them. They now plan to come back to CA and attend Santa Monica College for a year, with hopes of transferring to UC Berkeley their junior year. They plan to major in Art History.

Does anyone have ANY useful advice to help this person with transferring? For example, is it a terrible idea to transfer into UCB as an Art History major? Also, will the fact that they've only been at a CC for a year have any affect on them transferring?

Obviously, the GPA/IGETC/completion of prereqs is a must. Let's say for the sake of this thread that all three of those things are taken care of.

I would appreciate any helpful advice! Also, does anyone know how to check the UC Stat finder for Art History majors going into UC Berkeley?

Thanks!

I don’t think this is at all an uncommon situation. Tell your friend to complete pre-reqs and IGETC (if possible) and get as high a GPA as possible and they should be good. Art History is not a very competitive major from what I understand. If they have any questions about whether or not specific courses from the OOS school will be able to transfer, they should try to speak with the admissions department of the school they want to transfer to. Good luck!

This is a pretty good resource for comprehensive transfer info. It looks like they don’t keep stats for individual majors in L&S because they admit by college, not major. The admit rate is high 40.5% for L&S.

For Art History it should be relatively easy considering it’s not one of the more popular major at Cal i would say a 3.5 and she’s got a really good shot

@Empathy, that link is very helpful thank you.

@peterr86, that’s a relief to hear. How did you know the person was a “she”? Lol

alittle bit of logic
