Interesting.............

College interviews are good!!! Do them!!!

I just had a really good interview at UChicago that definitely changed my mind about interviews. I did an interview with someone in the admissions office during my visit. I thought it would just be me asking questions but instead my interviewer asked me tons of weird/crazy questions and really got to know me. It turned out so well that he said I was a "stellar candidate" and had me meet my regional representative (the 1st person who will read my app). So...that definitely increased my chances of getting in. They really liked me and I got a lot of info about how I can improve my app (he asked for my stats and told me what was good and what needed to be highlighted on the app). So the moral of the story is GET AN INTERVIEW. Don't listen to people who say interviews are nothing. If possible, when you schedule a college visit, schedule an interview at the same time. It's worth it! And you don't have to dress up...I wore jeans and so did all the other kids.

Excellent!!
I visited UChicago in April, but they hadn't started giving interviews yet. I don't think I can make another trip there anytime soon, but I will definitely schedule an interview with one of the alumni. It sounds like your interview was quite out of the ordinary, but you can only expect such a thing from Chicago!

im gonna schedule mine with Syracuse when i go for my auditions. I love interviews. because im an outspoken person i have no problem with talking to ppl! no one should be scared..it's only 10-20min of your life.

In general, there is a big difference between schools that give interviews with people who work for admissions and schools that give interviews with students or alumni. In my experience, yes, it has been beneficial to have an interview with an admission rep. Barnard, however, had me interview on-campus with a former student who was mostly there to answer questions I had about the school. I'm certain that it had little effect on my application.

Yes it definitely matters who you have your interview with. At Wash U I was interviewed by someone who had never done it before. She worked in the business office or something. It was terrible! She didn't ask any questions, it was really hot outside, and it was a waste of time. UChicago was a completely different experience! So it's the luck of the draw. I think if you book an interview at the actual admissions office for when you'll be there touring, you'll have a better chance of actually meeting an admissions person.
