Back when i had applied to UT, McCombs was my first choice and Undecided was my second choice. When i got my acceptance to UT, they notified me that they could not give me my first choice and that they instead gave me my second choice as an undecided major. Note that i am out of state (Virginia).

Anyway, after further thinking, i have decided that i would rather have a computer engineering undergraduate degree and i could later follow that up with a business degree in the future.

So now, i am still planning on attending UT but i want to transfer internally to the Cockrell school for Computer Engineering. I have spoken to the people down at the admissions office and they said that i could do that after having been at UT for at least a year.

I was wondering how hard it would be to do an internal transfer from the school of undergraduate studies (undecided) to the Cockrell school for CE?

Does anyone have any previous experiences with such an internal transfer? What are my chances? etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i don't want to be stuck at UT doing something i don't want to do while paying the rediculous out-of-state fees to attend (50k a year that i am going to have to pay all by myself with loans sadface)

EDIT: also, would it be possible to transfer to Cockrell BEFORE attending UT? I am a High School Senior at the moment. The lady at admissions said i could give it a try but it would be unlikely that i would get it. She said i should try to transfer after having been at UT for a year. Any info regarding this?

[Internal Transfer History Summary](<a href=“Undergraduate Education”>Undergraduate Education)

I don’t know much about internal transfers to Cockrell other than what’s in this link.

It looks discouraging, but I imagine many were denied due to being below the minimum GPA, or for having application essays that showed nothing but desire for money.

Oh my goodness, the numbers for Mechanical engineering are absolutely horrific!

Anyway, thank you for the link! It certainly is a bit discouraging but a cutoff GPA of 3.0 for Computer Engineering doesn’t seem too bad in the scheme of things…

If anyone else has anything to contribute then i would greatly appreciate it!

Just keep your grades up and try to start working early on whatever requirements you need for an internal transfer application. try to build relationships with faculty in subjects associated with your major like calculus so you can get good recommendation letters. if you have to write an essay for an internal transfer, then try to get on good terms with an english prof/TA so they can help you fine tune your essays. I personally got accepted as an external transfer, but ive been told by many, including an adviser at ECE, that an internal transfer is far easier.

the biggest thing though, is don’t slack off. give every class you take your all.

Yes, i will try to maintain all of my grades and extracurriculars.
And my essay writing skills are pretty damn good even if i say so myself.

Also, it is good to hear that it is easier to do internally transfer!

so basically #1 NO SLACKING.

anyone got anything else to say?
