Pavalon and Londonguy,

i heard both of u were admitted internationals.. did they use fedex or dhl?

Did ANYONE who's from Canada or anywhere outside US get their letters other than these two? How was it sent? Please help us poor Vancouverites!

now come to think of it.. maybe they are not using fedex or DHL for canadians..... since they dont consider us 'internationl' international.. tho we apply as intls.

I haven't heard. I fear the worst..

Yo man, they used Fedex. Received the package on monday morning around 11. There's got to be someone at your house when they deliver it.

And if there isnt? Do they leave anything?

futile attempts...

I'm not sure... but it's normal for it to take long to get to India...

Hey I live in Toronto Canada.
If you are accepted, they send by FedEx. I missed the shipment in the morning, which was really annoying. They leave a notice at the door, saying they will be back before 5PM the following business day.

With the tracking number, you can call and go pick it up at the FedEx location, which I did.

I got it on Mon Dec 11.

yeah.. i called. and they said they used fedex for canada.... guess i really got deferred.. sigh

Sorry about that, Princetonwannabe---we all know how much you wanted to get in. Good luck in the RD round from a fellow deferree.

Hey you still don't have your decision yet! Don't assume anything..... remember the '08 frosh story...!!

I haven't got mine yet too! :) :)

i got deferred.

You still stand a chance RD--you have very good stats. Again, I'm so sorry...I know you really loved Princeton.

you know.. what really gets me is the fact that the admissions officers at top schools, especially our beloved princeton and the not so well-known harvard (not so much yale), play all these little 'games' with us; and yet, they don't admit it... what i mean by 'games', is their way of manipulating data and the applicant pool, to create a class that will make the school look good by numbers.... each year, they have a goal in mind of what area they want to improve in the new incoming class.... and mostly, this has little to do with academics and EC... for instance, last year, they were targeting at BSE applicants, so that they could increase the fame of princeton bse... so they admitted 27% more BSE EDs than before.... do you really think they would give a fcuk if you were a strong applicant for AB? no... just out of luck... if you are not a legacy, athlete, or URM.... no matter how strong you are... you'd better hope that you are the type of applicant (be it BSE, or that you are from like Nigeria, or that you're a harp player) whom they want to pay special attention to....

then their is SAT testings.. they always want to create a class so that the average ED admits scores would be higher than that of RD... that's the only statistically way for them to back up their saying that ED pool is a lot stronger than RD despite the high admission rate... but at times in the past years... RD scoring has been around 5 - 10 higher then ED.... then there are officers who are responsible for recruiting all the EC 1's (internationally ranked, for instance an olympic level swimmer), but not the academic 1's in the ED pool.. cuz they know that it's much easier to get academic 1's even in the RD pool..

then there are things to do with under-represented regions... if you are from a region that is not even on the map of USA... apply early.. the dean will come to your house and hand deliver the letter to you....

and there are many other cases that they want to take care of in the ED round.. cuz ED is the only way for them to ensure the ppl who are admitted will attend.. so they can feel conident with the structure of the class.... so if you look at it statistically... they can only admit 600 ppl ED.. a small number to play with if we were to take all those special cases into consideration.... the chances for someone who is one of the top academic performers in his region and has strong EC's is almost 0...

so basically.. ED (not EA) is basically the way for the college to get its cushion ready, to set bar for the different stats, and to get their little special duty done, so that it can be a bit more liberal in the RD round..

college admissions is bulls h i t...

the guy whom i talkd to over the phone told me that since im not rejected, but deferred.. there are parts of my application that they really liked and that i have a really good chance still.. are officers really paid to lie? princeton only rejects like 3% of its ED applicants.... and around 80% of deferred students are just polite defer.... they dont want ppl to stop applying RD, so they just defer everyone... and for most of the deferrals, they won't be looked at again till all the RD kids are admitted...

Usually I refrain from posting when I read moving messages and freak decisions like these, because I have a zillion thoughts dancing in my head and I can't put em all into words which no one would care to read... but...

You know, pw, there are so many such things that go into admissions which we never paid attention to before we got our results (i'm still waiting). When we apply, we are enthusiastic; then, when the results start pouring in, we hope for the better. Though everything you said is a known fact, and 100% true, we choose to overlook all that and still hope we get in, because we "did our best."

Almost everyone who applies can get in. This is true - because if everyone applied regardless of whether they could or could not (as we have at IITs in india), there wouldn't be only 12,000 applicants, but 120,000 or more. Its not just a question of whether you are suitable. The question is whether THEY want us or not.

There are more fine people in the world than there are seats in fine universities. Lots of qualified applicants end up studying at safeties or have to take a year off (like me). Not everyone can go to their #1 choice. Some don't even get to go to their last choice.

Life is difficult to understand. You aspire for something and you end up doing something else. But that's how life is. And that is how we create Michael Faradays from bookbinders and Jennifer Anistons from waitresses.

Good luck again for RD.

Hey PW, I got deferred too. Called in this morning. She just said they "havn't decided on my application yet" and that it's "not a final rejection". Oh well, GL on the next round. This does suck how they accept so many Legatees and others. Guess art really isn't a hook. Probably our being in Canada hurts us. They only allow a certain amount of canadians to get in each year. Good luck with your RDs, and I'd really thought you'd get in this time with all your great stats.
