I’m applying with a Lebanese Baccalaureate (which is pretty similar to the French Baccalaureate). My high-school grades aren’t really good so I sent my SAT scores (which I had taken for universities in the US) cause they’re good and I read that even though I’m an international applicant it’d improve my chances of getting admitted.
I got on the SAT test: 770 on math, 540 on CR and 540 on writing.
And for the SAT subjects: 770 on math level 2 and 680 on physics.
I also managed to get 102/120 on the TOEFL IBT (I think the requirement is 96).
I’m applying for mechanical engineering (1st choice), and electrical/computer engineering (2nd choice).
What are my chances of getting admitted?
Thank you.
NO chance
Ahhahahaha ouuuuhouhou probably
Try Waterloo instead…
Any better suggestions?
@Kx21234 Have you seen McGill’s minimum score requirements? (I know this link says USA, but it contains the SAT benchmarks: http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/admissionsguide/standards/unitedstates) McGill is very strict about SAT scores. They will VERY rarely make exceptions and accept people with scores below their minimum benchmark. For engineering, they want a 670 or higher on every section and 670 or higher on every SAT II. You say your grades are not very good, and McGill looks very seriously at grades as well. In fact, grades and scores are virtually the only thing they consider. I would apply to a less selective Canadian university if you really want to go to school in Canada, because I honestly don’t think you have very good chances at McGill. Best of luck to you.

@Qwerty568 i know that already but the thing is that I’m not a US applicant which is why my english (CR and writing) aren’t good… So I was just thinking that maybe the other scores would give me a push. Thanks anyway.
Yea… your SAT II’s are going to kill your application (they probably expect 800’s there)
Plus disadvantage of international students.
Waterloo… no idea.
@qwerytiop thanks for the info, didn’t know that they require such high scores (it says higher than 670 on the website). Do you think I’d have a chance at concordia?
What’s the meaning of “not-very-good grades”? 11/20? 12/20?
13.5/20 with an average of 15/20 on math and physics @Catria . Are you familiar with the grading system?
I knew that, under the French Baccalaureate, a 12/20 is considered almost the same as a B- average from the US… and you said it so yourself that the Lebanese Baccalaureate is very similar to the French one as far as grading and content is concerned.
In which case Concordia is realistic.
Thank you for your time. @Catria
@Catria Just one more question. Do you think that going for Concordia (if I get accepted) then transfering to mcgill after my first year is a good or a dumb plan?
For that plan to work you will need 3.5+ and preferably 3.7+.
Note: actually, a 12 is honors (top 30% nationally), roughly an A-. So your grades are fine. You should have applied with your French grades… except for engineering (they don’t admit below 15 and like to see 16 since 15-16 is the elite from the S track).
Concordia is possible (they want 13 in math generally, or roughly an A).
Since you attended a French-style school, why not apply to Laval or UdeM, too?
You mean Polytechnique Montreal… which also asks for a 13/20 in math.
@MYOS1634 well I did check UdeM but I needed a french proficiency test and it was too late (note: my school is french-styled but for a stupid reason which I now regret I chose not to take the french baccalaureate and only take the lebanese one which does not give me the french language requirements). Thank you anyway I think I’ll apply to mcgill cause you never know and to concordia.
@Catria I think I can do that. Though I’m not sure if I should choose concordia which is ranked 400-500 worldwide or just attend AUB which is in my country and ranked 250 overall and 150 in engineering worldwide. Why is concordia so important anyway since it doesn’t have a good ranking? At AUB you just need to be in the first 25% of your class and you should have over 1250 on SAT I (CR + Math ONLY) to guarentee early addmission.
