If I were the founder of an extra curricular activity reaches out and impacts the lives of hundreds in several countries, would that be good enough for HYPSM?
I’m not trying to sound conceited, because my grades are somewhat low. The extra curricular activity (which I don’t want to disclose) is something I founded and currently preside over.

Apply and find out...for HYP etc, you usually need the great grades and great ECs (not to mention great test scores...)...That being said, an amazing EC can compensate for below average grades/test scores if it truly is amazing...The best way to answer this question is to simply apply to the schools (and if you are a junior...work REALLY HARD over the next year +)

i once was a director of a fundraising campaign (with around 40-50 volunteers working under me) and raised $2600 for street kids international, that was a huge impact to hundreds of disadvantaged youth around the world (each dollar goes a long way when it comes to buying emergency relief stuff for child aid). sounds like something similar to your description (even though it might not be). it was a huge project and a good cause and it empowered iother people to make a difference too.

Interesting thread. I'm kinda in the same situation as Claridge is in right now, but I'm a junior. I'll prolly apply to Duke ED or Brown ED. I have similiar academic stats to Claridge, except kind of a bit lower (4.15 GPA, 1450 expected SAT). What would my chances be at those 2 schools with my stats & special EC?

Start with a website and get people interested

What type of activitiy is this? It sounds like it could be a good thing to help you with admissions. Of course, the 1450 and good rank is also really important.

fallinwater, if you want to ask about rowland courses (or if you're wondering why harvard rejected me anyway), IM me and ill be glad to talk about it. thanks =)
