International IB student

Hello everyone! :)

I'm an international student that currently lives in East Africa. I'm looking to apply to the US and the UK for class of 2019
If I go the the US I wil probably need finaid (Not in the UK, I'm an EU citizen)

Here my stats!

Objective:
School: Private British
ACT: Im taking it in september, from practice tests I'm predicting a 32/33 composite (I can't get a very good grade in English and Reading)
SAT II: BioM 740, Math II in october, expecting between 700 and 750
We don't use GPA
IGCSE:
A* in Physics, ICT, French
A in Math, Biology, Global Perspectives, Geography
B in English Language and English Literature
IB predicted (based on previous grades):
English SL 6 (I started learning english in freshman year, before i used to be in an italian-only speaking school)

Physics HL 7
Math SL 6
ITGS HL 7
Spanish Ab Initio SL 7
(40/42)

Subjective:

Extracurriculars:
-MUN delegate for 3 years, I took part in a conference and I held the position of secretary of the club in junior year. Next year (Senior Year) I will be in charge of Junior MUN, a club started from scratch.
-Duke of Edinburgh bronze award recipient
-6 month internship at a local architectural firm
-Created a city-wide internship placement program involving most international schools in the city
-This summer I'm building homes in the countryside with Habitat for Humanity
-I speak 4 languages, Italian and English fluent and I'm conversational in French and Spanish. I'm currently studying Portuguese and Swedish
-I know Python
-I'm working on some projects regarding green energy with a very influential organization
-I MIGHT get an internship with a leading aircraft engine producer and maybe the UN
-I had a cameo in a movie (I'm probably not even going to mention it, it was a small role in an even smaller movie...)
-A bunch of other clubs (Yearbook, Journalism, etc...)

Planning on applying to:

Cambridge University (UK) Natural Sciences (Probably Trinity College or St John's)
University of Manchester (UK)
Stanford
Cornell
Penn
UCSB
Franklin W Olin
UW Seattle
Northwestern?
TU Delft?

While I know they are all reaches, I would like to know if you think that I have a chance at any of these school. BE BRUTALLY HONEST PLEASE!

Also, can you suggest some safety and match schools for me? I want to major in materials engineering/science. In TU Delft I would be applying for aerospace engineering.

Thank you so much for you help!

S2Stan :)

I almost forgot! I will be applying to Stanford SCEA

Please give me some feedback! :)

Yeah.
You’re pretty much perfect.
I’m also applying for 2019. I’m from West Africa. And you have me worried
So that’s good for you right? lol
I think you have a very good chance at getting into all those schools. But they’re still reaches because college applications is like a lottery… You can never be too sure.

@Yurgirl Thank you so much! lol  I’m sure your application is awesome as well!

Bump! Please, more advice! :)

Bumpbumpbump

Yaaay another EU citizen attending a British private school! Great! :)

Here we go: Manchester will probably give you an offer, and UCSB seems like a match too. Stanford & Cambridge are high reaches, and Penn, Cornell and Northwestern are also reaches. I’m not familiar with the others, sorry!
Stanford, Northwestern & Penn are need-aware and really tough to get into if you ask for fin aid, though. Also, none of the UCs offer fin aid to internationals, so perhaps you should take UCSB off the list. Stanford & Penn cover full need, but Cornell doesn’t always, and I think Northwestern doesn’t either (not sure about that).

You can apply to five courses in the UK, so maybe look at UCL, ICL (both great engineering!) and Nottingham.

In the US all schools are reaches with financial aid, but maybe look at Dartmouth (since there were significantly less applicants this year) or JHU.

Stanford: Reach (for everyone)
Penn: High Match - Low Reach (w/o finaid)
Cornell: High Match - Low reach (w/o finaid)
Northwestern: Match (w/o finaid)

I have no idea about european schools, sorry about that.
Also, Finaid will probably lower your chances a bit, though I don’t know by how much

BTW, love your EC. The Internship Program is definitely a standout.
Good luck on getting your internships!

@LayraSparks‌ Yay! Where are you from? I’m Italian :)

Anyway, I’m not applying to UCL and ICL, since UCL does not offer the course I want and ICL requires Math and Chemistry HL. Even Manchester does, and I will have to take a foundation year. While it might sound ridiculous, in according to UCAS, the only course I qualify for (Without a foundation year) is Natural Sciences, with focus on Material Science, in Cambridge!

For UCSB I’m basically relying on the opportunity to get a merit scholarship. Isn’t JHU stingy with their financial aid?

I was not aware about Dartmouth, I will definitely consider it! It is also need blind! :)

Thanks!

@SubprimeStuLoan‌ Thank you! Are you really sure I’m a match for Northwestern? I’m so happy! :D

I’m pretty sure! If you’re an american student, you’re probably in lol. Too bad we’re all internationals =(

@S2Stan‌ I’m from Hungary! :)

Sorry, I didn’t know about those requirements, I’ve taken A-Levels & haven’t done the IB. I’m also not too familiar with Engineering, so I quickly looked up courses at top UK universities  For some reason I also thought foundation courses were mostly for non-EU residents. But then again, I’m applying for Film, so that’s different…

Does UCSB offer scholarships to internationals? Anyway, if merit scholarships are an option, I’d recommend USC. USC Viterbi is excellent & there are full tuition merit scholarships available. However, during application, you’d still have to demonstrate the ability to pay. There’s also NYU, but it’s horrible with fin aid, and has very little for internationals.

Maybe look at Harvey Mudd, or other LACs offering engineering and fin aid.

Oh, and if you haven’t heard about Dartmouth yet, check it out. It’s also an Ivy!

PS. There’s an Europe thread somewhere in the International Students section, maybe you could join!

@LayraSparks‌ USC is awesome but bloody expensive, and NYU is even worse lol! I would need a very big scholarship to be able to afford either, however I will still consider them.

I was considering HMC but I’m scared it will be too theoretical when it comes to academics…

I did know dartmouth, I meant that I was not aware about the drop in applications, my bad :)

I will certainly join the Europe thread! :)

@SubprimeStuLoan‌ I know right! So unlucky :((

BUMP, Can I get some more advice? :)

Please guys, give me some more feedback! :)

Bump! I would like some more advice!
