Chances for international student

SAT I: 1820 CR: 660 W: 620 M: 540 (retaking, aiming for 2100 - 700, 700, 700)

SAT II: Taking in October

Senior and junior year course load: International Baccalaureate: HL English, History and Geography, SL Math, Spanish and Biology --> hoping for a 40 predicted this year

Freshman and sophomore: IGCSE's (British system)

Rank: N/A, but class size is extremely small - about 9 students in the IB class - I wonder if this is bad?

Major extracurriculars:
1. Theatre (been in plays throughout high school, mainly leads)
2. Art (had one of my pieces showcased for an environmental cause)
3. Environment (created a major club in my school for the environment)
4. Varsity Field Hockey (Goal Keeper)
5. Student Government (I've held top positions throughout high school, currently headgirl in my school)

Work experience: Prominent law firm in Kenya

Volunteer work: covered by CAS requirement in IB, I have over 100 hours now

Strengths: URM, I come from small country in Africa, I've travelled a lot and lived in 3 different countries so I've been exposed to a lot of different cultures, leadership (I've been a leader in almost everything I do) and I've been in the most rigorous school systems so I'm constantly challenging myself

Weaknesses: SAT scores - will fix those this fall, I'd never taken them or even heard of them before I took them this year

Recommendations:
One from world bank employee who's my mentor - stellar
Teacher recommendations - also stellar

PS: I forgot to mention that I'm currently studying the IB in the USA, but I'm not a citizen, hence the title.
PPS: I'm applying this fall

Are you applying for financial aid?

No, my parents are going the whole mile… But I’m definitely applying for any scholarships that I can get my hands on…

bump 10 char

def raise ur sat
and make sure u get over 700 on ur sat 2
wat are ur ib scores?

Georgetown (SFS)–high match/low reach
Brown University–reach
Harvard College–high reach
Northeastern–match
Ithaca College–low safety
American University–safety
George Washington University–match
New York University–match

It’s hard to say without knowing your GPA/grades/predictions, but you have a pretty good SAT (make sure that you actually get what you’re aiming for on the SAT retake, do a lot of practice tests over the summer…based on your current scores, getting a 700 is a vast improvement, so you’ll need a lot of work to get there.) The prediction you hope for, if you actually get it, is fantastic! (: Your EC’s are also really great, I think you have a good shot :D

@buffakus: We haven’t done our mocks yet so I dont have a predicted, but the first exam we did in my junior year, I got a 32 without the 3 extra points from the Extended Essay or TOK presentation (because we havent done those yet). So I’m looking to push that to a 40 by the time I do my senior mock exams.
@Deblerg: I’ve been doing practice tests all summer, hopefully it’ll make a difference. Thanks for the detailed chance! :)

Shameless bump >.<

A little more comments, please?? Anyone??

Final bump 10 char

As a URM, you definitely have a shot. Get those SAT scores up, even if they aren’t as hgih as 2100, you want to be above 2000 to sure. Good luck!
