^..If you got money then the scenario would be quite different, that is, you would be out of the most competitive pool in many unis.....

Try Georgia College & State University (where I'm transferring out of some time in the near future). It's okay for a safety- 3rd best public school in the state (after GA tech and UGA), so affordable that it's hard not to take advantage of the numerous study abroad opportunities, internationals get top-notch care and small class sizes (intro classes range from 20-60 people).

Internationals with good enough stats pay only half the expenses. I pay only 11k, with 600-something SAT scores and a bad HS record.

BTW, I went to my safety school because my parents wanted to save up more money so I can go to a better one (that's a fit, because GCSU isn't) once my grades go up and I've started taking major classes. I could have gone to any of the top universities in my country, but some schools don't recognize post-secondary coursework not done in the US for transferring.

b@r!um ,

My GPA is 4.O. I have staright A's in Alevels 5 A's in fact and my SAT score is 800M
650 CR
680 W
and SAT2,
800 Maths 2
800 Che
740 PHy
My rank in class is 1/78
But i am an international and looking for aid.
i have applied to good colleges but i need some safeties too
last year many students of my calibre did not get any colleges
so, could you plz suggest me some fit colleges that give sufficient aid or like full tuition to intls
i think berea does but it takes only 25 every year
u suggested columbia.....will that be a good match?
could you plz suggest some

if u write an awesome essay and show good ecas you can get into columbia with ur stats and get financial aid...however it will be a very high reach and definitely not a safety

I think purushottam referred to Columbia College, SC, not Columbia University, NY (at least that's what I referred to when I mentioned Columbia a few posts above).

purushottam

Look at the University of New Orleans, with your stats you could go for free.

purushottam, the problem is that pretty much every college that would give you significant merit aid as an international applicant is "below your league" academically. Keeping that in mind, here are a few colleges that may consider your for full-tuition scholarships:

University of New Orleans, Park University, Southern Arkansas University, Saint Peter's College, Columbia College

Before you apply to any of those, examine their course offerings very carefully. You don't want to be stuck in a place that is not intellectually stimulating for you (e.g. as a math major, the only college I would want to attend out of the ones above is the University of New Orleans)

Berea gives everyone a full-tuition scholarship but they have an international admission rate of just about 4%. It's worth a shot if you genuinely want to attend, but don't bother with it as a "safety".

Thanks barium and danhernan. Well columbia coll is a women's college. Oops!
How about st johns uni, NY and Trinity U, TX?

The Columbia College scholarship is a great deal. But there doesn't seem to be a thread on it in the college confidential forums :(

Consider Macalester, Ohio Wesleyan, Wooster, Eckerd, Beloit, F&M, Knox, Ithaca, Lawrence and St. Olaf. I am listing them because they are liberal arts colleges that are very selective but not as selective as the top 25 schools. These are the small schools that tend to be very generous to international students who get admitted. None of them, in my opinion are true "safeties", but would be worth considering if you are looking for a lot of aid and have competitive scores (>2050 SATs). Good luck!

F&M is actually quite selective and can't really be considered a safety specially if you are asking for aid

Do you guys know safety-match schools of Computer Science which offers huge Financial aid?

Bump it!!! I'd like to know as well.

Guys!! and gals
Caldwell College
in New Jersey is a good safety college
You must score 1200 or 1300 in SAT (CR+Maths) and you will be awarded a Presidential scholarship = full tution costs (i.e. approx. 100,000 $ in a period of 4 years)

A&M's a pretty good engr school. If you maintain a decent GPA(3.5+) you automatically qualify for in-state tuition (i.e. you get a departmental scholarship for major engr depts like chem, elec, comp, mech) which amounts to aound 10k per annum.

No university on the US can be called a safety unless you have Amazing stats and no financial need.
