If you are an international applicant and need aid, and you are reaching for Williams, you also should have Amherst on your list. Amherst is need blind to international applicants - Williams is not.
^ was about to say that
Also, look at universities such as Howard or Montevallo or FAMU that offer full ride scholarships for high stats students.
Are you applying to UK/Irish Universities? To universities in France or Germany?
No, UK is too expensive, plus they don’t usually let you stay after your time at uni ends, or so I’ve seen in many cases.
I’m not looking at France/ Germany because I have to learn college-level German. But i was looking at Japan…like APU or Ritsumeikan.
But I’m mainly focused on America.
Thanks for the advice! @MYOS1634
Yeah but I heard Amherst is pickier… But thanks I’ll look into it. @ThankYouforHelp
Williams and Amherst are similarly selective (which is to say, enormously…!!! Both are Little Ivies). However only Amherst is need blind/meet need for internationals.
have you looked at the “merit scholarships” schools (like FAMU)?
Germany does have a one-year program so that you can learn German.
France has some bilingual programs (look at http://www.sciencespo.fr/college/en)
“they don’t usually let you stay after your time at uni ends”
Ok, if you don’t like that about the UK, then please do remember that in the US the visa extension after graduation is only one year for most majors, and then only if you do have a job waiting for you right after graduation. Not to mention of course that US immigration policy is a mess right now, and not likely to change for the better before you would graduate.
Last time I checked, Canada and Australia had more generous work permits for students, and friendlier post-graduation work permission. If not going home after you finish is important to you, investigate what those countries have to offer you.
If you want post-graduation friendly places, I concur that Canada and Australia are much better than the US. In fact the UK is better than the US at present, although with Brexit we have no idea what’ll happen. But right now, the US system is a mess.
I know US citizens that married foreign students in college who ended up leaving the US to go to their spouse’s countries because it was easier for them both to work that way. It’s always a mess. One couple is in Canada and the other in Mexico.
Yeah thanks guys, I have eliminated UK and Australia because of the high living prices, but Canada was always an option, it’s just that they focus on grades and transcripts more for awarding scholarships, which are very very competitive as well, because like tons of people are applying from my school and most of them have like 95% in each of their AS/O level subjects, so I wasn’t really confident…
Plus this guy I know got all 90% and above in his A levels, but he only received a scholarship from university of alberta which covered 13k out of a possible 27k.
update: i got into smith with the cost of attendance covered, thank you for the help
Congratulations!
Good luck at Smith (if that’s where you finally decide to go).
Congratulations! It’s fantastic!!!
So awesome @douxrien !!! Enjoy!
