international student chances?

hiii :)

i submitted my part 1 application to usc last night for fall 2010, and was wondering if anybody could give me any help on my chances of succeding in being admitted.

im english, and have lived in england all my life.

in my gsces (done at age 16 in the last year of high school) i got these grades:

english lit - B
english lang - B
science - B
additional science - C
stats - C
maths - C
geography - A
RE - A
business & communication systems (it's pretty much IT) - B
PE - D (messed that one up biiig style)

finished my first year of college in june, go back in september. i am studying a BTEC in Busines at National Diploma level (highest) which is equivalent to three A Levels, and it's not impossible for me to finish with AAA equivalent.

on a BTEC you do 18 units relating to the course (human resources, accounting, business law, marketing, team development etc ) and if you pass the unit you get 6 points, 12 for merit and 18 for distinction. i got 108 points this year, and will have to get about 120 next year for DDD.

i've done lots of sports - played football (Soccer) for a few teams locally, including the school and college, and also hockey, netball and athletics.

also i have taken part in many charity fundraising events - sponsored walks / runs, organising events etc.

I am hoping to do a Business major.

do i stand a chance? and would any other exams / american school tests etc need to be done?

any help is much appreciated, thank you :)

I am also an English applicant for fall 2010 and I did GCSEs as well (although I did A levels instead of a BTEC).

Seeing as they make a decision before you finish year 13, I dont know how it would work. Do you get predicted grades with BTEC? (You do with A levels)

What does 108 points equal out to (on an A B C etc scale)? From what I can gather getting BBB is the minimum and obviously the more A’s the better!

And, yeah, I think you have to take the SAT exam as well, although I’m not 100% they require it seeing as you’re coming from an english school having studied the english curriculum.

Im in exactly the same situation as you, wondering if I’ll get accepted, although Ive finished my A levels now and Im taking a year out.

Hope that helped!

hi thanks for your reply :)

we get minimum accepted grades, which mine is MMM - which i think equals CCC.

to get DDD (AAA) (confusing i know lol!) i need 252…so i will need 144 points next year. (just found the sheet)

what major you hoping to do?

thanks for the help

hey

so what grades will you be putting on your application? CCC? or AAA?
the system does sound a bit confusing, I’m glad I stuck with A levels now :P

I’m hoping to major in Music Industry, which is basically business with a focus on the music business. maybe with a minor in spanish (i live in spain!)

Are you applying to any other US universities or just USC?

the btec grade - whether DDD, DDM, DMM, MMM etc etc, and probably a note of it’s equivalence to A Levels

oo where abouts in spain?

i think i may apply to uc riverside as a back up, you?

i live just north of alicante, on the east coast.

and im gna apply to UCLA and Loyola Marymount University as well…I want to be in LA! haha. I’m not applying to any UK uni’s though!

same haha, not applying to any english ones, it’s California or nothing for me.

i wanted to go to UCLA but they dont do business so its USC for me…hopefully! :D
