International Student looking for full ride

@MYOS1634 Really? I may email them again. First time, they said I couldn’t apply without the CSS Profile, then they said I could wait to see if I was accepted first.

Well, I’ve had students apply to Rice with test scores on transcript including last year and there was no problem.

@gigichuck I might be wrong but I think if you qualify for merit full ride at Howards you also have good chances for getting into Rice, so Rice is the safe bet here.

Rice is NOT safe bet for anyone, even for citizen.

I meant to say it seems safer than Howards in this exact situation.

Hey Guys! More options to consider:
Before I write down the options I just wanna say, please don’t be afraid of applying to ivies. Even though competition is high yes, and you need to have a substantial amout of safeties just to make it to America. 2 guys from my country got into Harvard, the other got into STANFORD (acceptance rate of less than 5%) with a 1900/2400 on the SAT!!! So don’t let some people here discourage you. I don’t deny the fact that getting into those type of schools will require HARD work and a bit of playing your cards right because it is a lottery after all. That’s why you should apply- Cause You Never Know. That man spoke of His son who took Duke and Northwestern as a crap shoot and actually got in. Okay by the way @gigichuck DON’T You Stress about Application fees. You can pay $0 for ALL 20 schools on common app. Apply for a fee waiver on common app, let your counselor confirm it. Then your done. My friend got fee waivers for ALL the CSS Profiles he submitted. I’m not so sure about the SAT besides the free 4 reports but I know that they consistantly mention something about if sending the scores is a financial burden you can apply for a waiver at the schools or EduUsa or maybe on College Board(I’m not sure) Okay caution, the schools I’ll give yall are pretty competitive but hey man, they meet 100% demonstrated financial need. Okay, this need thing is a topic for another day- but anyway lemmie put it out there. Okay so they meet your 100% need BUT most are Need-Aware which means that wanting a lot of aid- MIGHT- notice I said might, hurt your chances of getting in. Like they might pick another international whose able to pay. Okay for that I look at the average amount of financial aid they give their students, if its around $33k then for me that’s a red flag cause most of these colleges/unis are about $65k (total cost-room,board ,tuitition-everything) so that might mean most of their students are able to pay atleast $20k. Okay sorry that took long, just felt I had to put it out there. Oh by the way I said might cause my friend is at Oberlin College right now, one of the top us colleges. 24 on the 2017 list. And he had a 1360 sat but around 700s in subject tests, one of them was phys/chem I don’t remember he’s a CS major and they met his Full need . And oberlin is about $65k. So see, you never know. Okay now to business.

Oh @gigichuck the css profile waiver I believe is made by contacting the schools directly. And more schools, brown univ, claremount mckenna, pitzer, and scripps college. And Oberlins ranking is---- just incase someone thought I meant the ranking including universities.: Oberlin College’s ranking in the 2017 edition of Best Colleges is National Liberal Arts Colleges, 24. And Wow @41ADAN a 760 on CR+W that’s SOoOoooo impressive. May you please share some tips, strategies or techniques you might have used as well as how you understood the types of questions asked and how you knew what they wanted.

@Charleigh18 8-> =D> =D> =D> =D> You are awesome. I really needed that motivation right now.

@Charleigh18 Oh yeah. I’ve already contacted all the schools I’m applying to, and they said to wait till October. 2 have given me codes though.

And, you can also contact schools to find out it they will accept your scores on your transcript, then have your guidance counsellor sign and stamp your score report and send it with it. A lot of schools accept that, including the Ivies. Heck, all the schools on my list will take that, except 4, covered by the free reports. Thanks @MYOS1634 for that one.

@gigichuck thank you so much! You better keep moving forward

@Charleigh18 Thanks for that long list of schools, will check some of them and see if it’s worth trying. Now, as for a high reading & writing SAT score, there’s a very simple way to get there: read a few books. Really, that’s all, pick up a couple of fantasy books or whatever genre you like the most and read them, then to get used to the kind of questions in SAT just use Khan Academy for a couple of months before the test.

You may also want to try writing during your free time, I got a lot of progress with English when I started writing (I wrote fictional news articles for a roleplay group in Elite Dangerous, I also wrote the backstory of the group and several characters).

@41ADAN Lafayette offers engineering. Check it out.

Pitzer, anyone? They don’t accept scores on transcript, but they’re test optional, so I can apply without. Buuut, I don’t trust my app without my scores, and I don’t trust their financial aid. Thoughts?

I don’t know about Pitzer but Lafayette is definitely on my list.

@Charleigh18 which Columbia college ? the one in Missouri?

BTW , good job on that list, you must have done alot(understatement) of research

Pitzer funds very few International students. Add them only after you got the right list.

Wow, your friend that got in with a 1900 must have been spectacular.
A friend of mine with similar scores got a fee waiver from Stanford without asking and still got rejected! We were all celebrating the unsolicited fee waiver request as a sign of acceptance lmao.
Although he didn’t take our advice and say thank you so I don’t know if that might have played a role!

@Controlla Lmao! When I received a fee waiver from Swarthmore I did say thank you so, fingers crossed lol. Please and thank you are supposed to be the magic words, after all.

Unsolicited fee waivers are supposed to tempt us into applying. I got one from UMN Twin Cities, but no thank you.

So here’re the 4 schools I’m sending my test scores to:

MIT
Loyola Marymount University
University of Rochester
Rice

But UNC Chapel Hill has some nice merit aid. Would it be worth it to remove any of the above schools for it?

LMU? Why?

UMinnesota is an excellent university.
