actually, the better place for OP is the Musical Theatre sub forum under “College Majors.” But, since I know about NYU Tisch, let me tell you that an audition is required and academic record matters as well. Also, freshmen enter in the fall, so OP, you’d need to do something in between.

If you decide to apply to NYU for theatre, then you would be applying for a BFA in Drama. Tisch Drama has seven (or so) different acting studios, and the school decides which studio accepted students are placed in. At the audition, you would be asked whether you would also consider being placed in a different studio than New Studio on Broadway, which is the MT studio. Many of the other studios have singing and dancing components to them, and there are opportunities to audition into the New Studio beginning junior year.

NYU is not known for its financial aid, but they have been known to give great packages to some kids (although since you are international and perhaps not able to audition in person, i doubt you’d be one to get a very special aid package, to be honest). Here is a link to the program:

I don’t know when audition slots are open (they may be already) but do register for that early if you decide to apply. They do accept video submissions if you can’t make an audition in person.

I know some students who just graduated from New Studio, and yes, it’s a fantastic program with strong dance component.

Tisch also offers a dance BFA, but that is different.

ps – no one on the MT forum will tell you what is the “best” program. It’s about fit and with such a competitive major, any applicant really really needs to have a wider range of school choices than just one or a few…
