International student question! Please answer.

Is it possible for an international student who has already received a bachelor's degree to apply and attend a school in the US at the undergraduate level? If so, please explain the application process if you can, including tests to take, grades to send, and tips on getting in. Thanks.

Some colleges and universities would admit you as a transfer student. However, it is not likely that you would be admitted to a degree program that is essentially the same as what you have your first degree in. In other words if your degree is in biology, you wouldn’t be admissible in biology, but you might be admissible as a transfer student in chemistry, bioengineering, or agriculture.

You should contact the specific colleges/universities that you are interested in for your specific major field of study and ask them if what you want to do is possible.

Good luck!

Well, let’s say I finish my 4-year degree in physics, but want to go for another bachelor’s degree in business or related field in the USA. Is that possible?

Why not just get an MBA? If you want a second bachelors, and can affford it, threre will be many non top private schools that will work with you.

MBA admission is normally based on your undergraduate GPA, your GMAT scores, letters of recommendation from employers (if you are working) or professors (if you are still in college), your work experience (if you are working), and an essay or two. It is entirely possible to be admitted to an MBA program straight out of college, so that may be a better choice for you than a second bachelor’s degree.

So for an MBA, a private school will take physics majors? Another reason I think it might be better to redo undergraduate is to strength English. So is admissions to an undergraduate institution possible?

Each college will have a different policy on accepting someone with a B.A. or B.S. for a second undergraduate degree. For instance, the top Ivy League schools will not accept someone who has already taken undergraduate classes in a degree program.

You should email the admissions offices at the schools which interest you for their exact policy. Their admissions websites will answer your questions about tests, grades, and other FAQs (frequently asked questions).

“So for an MBA, a private school will take physics majors?”

In general, universities actually appreciate more diverse undergraduate majors when applying to graduate schools of business and law.

“I think it might be better to redo undergraduate is to strength English.” What is your TOEFL/IELTS score? Each graduate school posts the English scores necessary for admission right on its website. And often it is possible to begin a graduate program while still enrolled in advanced ESL courses. Check the websites for information about that as well.
