I spent 9th/10th grades in taiwan, at an extremely competitive bilingual school, and was at a public high school in california for junior year, also pretty competitive, top 100 in the US.
Going to be a senior next year, back at the school in taiwan. will be applying as an international student.

teacher recs should be average/above average, counselor rec will be good. :)

thanks!

edit: oh and i forgot to add MUN in sophomore year as an EC :P

3.00 is just really low. That’s basically straight B’s right? Espescially for Asians, you’re gonna have a hard time getting in.

The UC’s are unlikely, you might get in at the other places.

hmm ok. thanks : )

You’re an Asian URM. This makes life difficult for you. Your GPA will hurt you badly, and your SAT could be better. Your SAT IIs are a bit lacking, since colleges don’t weigh heavily on you doing well at your native language. Unless you have strong awards for your ECs, then CMU and Rice remain reaches. The others are High-Match to Low-Reach, but if you apply international…everything goes out the window.

Do you need financial aid?

i probably won’t be applying for financial aid.

but how does applying international make everything go out the window? o.o

Think of it this way. Your competition includes Asians all around the world, including those who would rather get 10 higher points on the SAT than sleep for three weeks. And the Koreans in private schools which churn 2400/36 out of non-native speakers. It’s far more intense than even the Asians in the US, who can get pretty insane at times, with half a dozen SAT/ACT retakes and pushing the EC envelope to its breaking point. I don’t want to sound mean; if anything I say is demeaning, then I apologize. I have a bit of a cynical attitude when it comes to college applications.

Because international applicants are competing for a very, very, very limited amount of spots in American universities. Usually, your application will be compared with those of all the other applicants from your country, meaning that your stats need to extraordinary, even by CC standards (which yours are not).

The fact that you are an ORM only exacerbates the situation.

yeah makes sense. :stuck_out_tongue: thanks for the responses!
