This isnt another chances thread where I post all my stats, but I’m an international student and I go to an all arabic school. I just know english cause my family taught when i was little.
My SAT scores are 540 CR, 660 (math), and 510 (writing 9 on the essay)
I have 270 on my Toefl.
All my other stats are perfect, 4.0 gpa, amazing ECs, essays, and recs. And say I get 700+ on my SAT II’s. Do any of you think I can get into to Brown?
I do realize that everyone has amazing SAT I scores, but its such a huge disadvantage to us international students especially if you’ve barely studied english your entire life (I even take math in arabic lol).
So, what do you people think?
I’m gonna apply ED.

According to the Brown website: "A TOEFL score of 600 or above on the written exam, or 250 or above on the computer-based exam, is required in most cases" (http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Admission/applyingtobrown/internationalstudents.html)

So it sounds like you qualify, but just barely. I'd say your low SAT scores would proably keep you out, since so many international students apply with nearly perfect English and high SAT scores. Although you are obviously quite bright, you might struggle at Brown if you have trouble reading and writing in English. Maybe those tests don't demonstrate your true ability -- in which case, that will hopefully shine through in other aspects of your application (essay, interview, etc), and you will have a much better shot.

Good luck! Also, out of curiosity, from which country are you applying?

About the Toefl score, I took it when I was sick. I got a 6/6 on my essay, the only part I think I did bad in was the Listening part, its so stupid you lose point a lady just talks for 5 min and then asks you questions based on your memory.

Yeah I know about the international students, but I mean i can speak fluently and I write pretty good I guess, but its just that English isnt my native language (I speak Arabic and french too) So thats why I suck at it.
And I'm not going to apply for financial aid so that'll help right?

I'm applying from Saudi Arabia.

I don't think that whether or not you apply for financial aid will affect your chances of getting into Brown (need blind, and all).

No, that only applies to domestic applicants.

oh really? whoops then. sorry!

Yup, not applying for aid will be a point in your favor.

I'd say write some great essays and have them super proof-read to show off your English skills, and try hard to get an interview in English (you can probably do a phone one if there's not an alum in your area). If this comes across well in your application, then you'll be a very strong applicant!

Yeah, they do offer interviews here, so thats good.
yeah, im gonna focus on writing a realy unique essay, im just waiting for the brown applications to go online so that I know the topic.

bump bump...

wow, not applying for financial aid!! why don't you redo ur SAT and bump it up a bit... that will increase your chance by a lot!!
