I think I should be OK. Just found this on Yale’s website:

“Am I allowed to apply as a freshman if I have already started at another university?
You may apply as a freshman if you have completed no more than one term or semester at another university. If you have completed more than one term or semester at another university (but no more than two years), you may apply as a transfer student.”

Hi everyone, I just have some silly questions that I want to make sure
First, I am an international student from Vietnam who is currently studying VCE in Melbourne. Does that mean I will be counted as an Australian applicant? Some people tell me I will still belong to the ‘Asian/Vietnamese’ pool, but some say I am already counted in the Australian pool. So I hope somebody here can clarify this.

The second question is for those who are doing VCE. What is exactly the high school record that I should send the US colleges? The official results from VCAA or the school records? Will the ENTER score be sufficient? (because it is already a standarised score anyway).

The last question is about SAT stuff. Well, basically, I have taken my SAT in January, and surprisingly my critical reading score was 730 (I am an ESL student, and most of the time, I just get about 600-650 for my practice tests). Anyway, I don’t want to retake the test because I don’t think I will be able to achieve that score again, plus my VCE study has consumed all my time. The problem is that my Math score is not that great, just 670. Hence, I am planning to take Math Level 2 and try to get an excellent score for it. Will this score help to compensate for my low SAT Math? I know that I am very lazy not to retake the test, but I think it would be more effective if I could spend more time in my VCE subjects and my essay. I am not actually a person who excels at handling different tasks simultaneously.

Finally, good luck with your mid-year exams :>

Unless you’re an Australian citizen, you’ll be considered as Vietnamese.

Are you talking about the high school transcript? You will need to submit your school reports (preferably summarised) from 9th to 12th grade. I see you’ve only been in Australia since Yr 11. If you have records from before that, you should submit those as well. Is the Enter score a predicted score? I’m not sure about the terminology sorry! If it is, you can tell the schools that and then send the official one when you find out.

It’s hard to say whether you should retake the SATs. They are obviously not everything, but are an important part for schools which are difficult to be admitted into. If you tell us what schools you’re interested in, it will let us give you better advice.

I just want to add that I’m doing the same thing as schrondingerscat- I’ll finish my semester here before heading off to the US. I also know a few other people who did that in the past and they haven’t encountered any problems.

@maimu293:
I don’t think the 670 alone will ruin your chances, unless you are a prospective maths/science major.
Most US college would require a transcript that contains your year 9-12 grades.

Update: My SAT II’s were much better, 800 in Maths II, 800 in Chem and 780 in Bio M (well, i didnt do bio for 6 months and i didnt learn ecology beyond year 8, with some year 11 stuff)

And I have a feeling that I really bombed out that section in the SAT, like I think I could have done a lot better; I got 730 in the official practice one…

I just got a likely letter from Harvard (non-athlete, non-URM).
I have no idea how it happened, but I’m completely over the moon!
Best of luck to the rest of you!

Hey guys, student from sydney here who also applied for US colleges. Currently attending UNSW, first year obviously. This whole US thing was kinda last minute for me, I just got kinda hooked towards the end of year 12. Wish I had gotten into it sooner, studied for my SAT’s, taken more time on my apps etc.

Got a bunch of acceptance letters from some safeties I applied to, but I’m pretty happy with UNSW at the moment, so I’m only planning on going if I get into one of my top three; Brown, Stanford and MIT.

Anyone know how many semesters/courses it takes for us to be counted as transfer students?
