As a prospect international student, I am quite concerned about the different prep schools' approach towards international students. I'm looking mainly at Deerfield, Andover, and Choate, but would love to hear about others as well.

Mainly, I'm wondering if there are specific international leaders that perhaps help new students settle in -- deal with homesickness, culture shock, etc. Or is there a international coordinator that hosts events for international students to bond? Maybe there is a buddy system, where each new student has a sort of mentor to help them adjust to American life. I've tried looking at each school's website for information, but it is very limited.

I'm interested in hearing both domestic and international student input. Do international students fit right in? Are they an exclusive group?
Thanks !

Are they exclusive? No, not according to the Lawrenceville AO. But students, international or not, acclimate extremely quickly.

Why would you want an international student bonding time? Isn’t it better to have an all students bonding time?

As an international boarding school student myself, I’m curious as to what you think is so unique about your situation compared to the 100-300 new students that show up to school in the middle of nowhere? Most of these kids are away from home for the first time and are hundreds or thousands of miles away from home. As for integration, we integrate very well, and have friends based upon mutual interests. Internationals hail from many countries, with many different cultures, so that really is not a bonding thread.

Go to each schools’s website and see what they offer for support and orientation for all students. You will find plenty of information.

BTW, you are putting the cart way before the horse. You first have to get accepted to one of these highly selective schools. When you research schools I would suggest adding some schools with a higher admit rate.
