My birth place is US and I have an American passport, but I lived and grew up in HK and english is my second language. When I apply for universities in US, what kind of student will I be considered. If I am considered a local student, that would be very unfair because my English is not very good and my SAT score is not high either. If I am considered an international student, do I have to reach all the local student requirements, like volunteer work, SAT scores, etc. and do I have to do an interview or just submit my personal statements?

Also, what is GPA? I don't have it here in HK. Is it crucial for me to submit my GPA? If it is crucial, how do I get it?

Thanks for all your help!!!!

You are a domestic applicant because you are a US citizen. This is a good thing. It makes a HUGE difference in financial aid. However, because you have been educated abroad, your application will probably be read by the international admissions officer responsible for the country where you are living.

If you are attending a high school that sends a lot of students to the US every year, your guidance counselor and teachers will know how to help you with this. If you are attending a school that has never sent anyone to high school in the US, you need to make an appointment with the counselors at [EducationUSA - Center Profile - PAS - Hong Kong](http://www.educationusa.info/PASHongKong) They are expert at helping students from Hong Kong find good places to study in the US. If they haven’t worked with a US citizen lately, they have colleagues in other offices who have.

Two other US citizens in Hong Kong are harvardhottie and zhangvict. You should look for their threads and/or send them a PM. Maybe you can help each other with this process!

Wishing you all the best!
