I was recently admitted to UCSD with an International studies- Econ major, I know that the Econ program in UCSD is top notch (or so I've heard), I was wondering if its possible to switch majors to Econ after the first quarter? I applied as Econ at Davis and got in too but I've always wanted to go to UCSD. So now I'm worried about my major... is an International studies- Econ major any good? or should I switch over to Econ (if possible)?

Oh and it would be awesome to hear thoughts about the major from anyone who's taking International studies- Econ right now (or planning to take) :) any input would be helpful! thanks!

why international studies econ? you can always switch your major but its definitely more trouble to switch after a quarter. For international studies- econ you take the same courses but there are different requirements.

@ieatsharks: yeah because at the time I was applying I thought I really had slim chance in getting UCSD so I picked Intl studies econ for my first choice major and economics as my second choice major, thinking well I’ll have greater chance of getting in SD if I chose this major instead, but now that I was accepted I really wanted an economics major… so yeah. I know its poor decision making in my part but I was quite pessimistic of getting accepted to SD and I’m really grateful when I actually got in so I don’t want to throw away my chance in UCSD just because of my major. So I guess International studies Econ is considered more of an International studies major than an Econ major? Or was it a better decision to go to Davis instead with an Econ major? :S

Man… and here I am with an econ major trying to switch to International studies- econ…

@ragingzero: really? Can I ask why?
