International Study Program

Anyone experienced with the International Study Program? My ds is thinking about Fall 2009 in Valencia Spain.

Will he still be eligible to receive the benefit of Academic Bright Futures?

I will ask my friend whose daughter studied in London last year.
I assume she still has her FAS but I will check and let you know.
I also wonder if it has any impact on the University scholarship.

The best thing to do would be to call the FSU IP and ask. (International Programs | About US)

Florida State University's International Programs (FSU IP) is consistently ranked in the top ten of US study abroad programs. Every year we send over 1,500 students across the world to study in our multiple locations. As a student of IP, you will be able to take classes that meet your major and/or minor requirements, study with experts in their field, earn FSU credit, and truly change your life forever!

FSU's International Programs have been around for decades - they were there and well-recognized in the 1970s when I was a student at Florida State.

My ds was able to travel to both London and Paris with his high school marching band. He enjoyed the architecture and culture of both cities. (Growing up in South Florida....we consider a building old if it was built prior to WWII. LOL I think when he was younger, this may have been what initially attacked him to FSU rather than UF or USF. He's loved the "feel" of FSU for a long time.)

Being a parent, safety is my first concern. One of my other concerns is the cost. As cybermom mentioned, I wonder how IP effects his scholarships (both private and through FSU).

I spoke with him earlier today. We're going to make a list of questions then speak with someone in IP.

My wife and I are both FSU graduates and we have two daughters - one is an FSU grad and the other is now a senior. FSU is as safe (or safer) as any other major university in Florida. You have to use your head (as a student), but the university has an excellent police department and security system.

We've had no issues over all those years of physical presence on and around the FSU campus.

I also attended FSU. My concern with safety isn't with Tallahassee, it's with the foreign cities where the International Programs are conducted.

Both my husband and I love the Tallahassee area are considering it when we sell our home. (We decided about 5 years ago to move to North Florida but waited for our son to graduate from high school.)

OK, I misunderstood your concern, sorry.

I'd like to move back to Tallahassee-NFL (we currently live in Sarasota county), but Sarasota has a lot to offer...it's not an easy decision. We'll see as time passes how our perceptions and priorities change, with possible grand kids and so on down the road.
