Hey guys! Recently I've found out about some summer camps abroad(mostly US) an I'm interested in applying. However it has been specified that the quota for international students is quite low and it is difficult to get in. I still have a couple of years so I was wondering if I should apply next year. Of course good grades in school are required. I wanted to know, what kind of academic achievements are required outside of school. There is no hard and fast rule as such but some of you might have a rough idea, I reckon.
We have Olympiads like KVPY and some Government Olympiads here that consist of multiple stages. For example in the Olympiad the top 300 students in the country make it to the second stage and then there is a further dilution in the later levels. So is a medal in these International Olympiads expected? Are they looking for depth of knowledge, or breadth? What about qualifying for the second stage in all the Olympiads(Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics). Just wanted to hear some thoughts. Thanks.

It would depend on the kind of summer program, some of the most prestigious like MITES (Minority introduction to technology, engineering and science) do not even accept application from non citizen or non permanent residents. Some which do, do not provide financial assistance and are quite expensive (up to $10k). BTW, Which summer program are you talking about?

I would appreciate it if you could tell me some more. Thanks for replying.

As my seniors have told me who are in top colleges Summer Camps are just a way by College of getting more money from students

Attending summer camps for sake of college applications will not help you and you should rather focus on Community Service or Internships opportunities in your own city.

My parent"s friends have children who have got into the Ivies. They say that the summer camps did help. Anyway there are no research opportunities for high school students where I live. Anyway, suppose I do want to go for the camp anyway, can you suggest what sort of ECs(academic) I need?
