International transfer from Europe to the US, should i even think about it?

Hello! I’m a student from Europe that just started out as a university freshman this fall.

Is it possible to transfer to an American school after 2 years(120) ECTS credits? I’m majoring in computer science in in one of the top schools in my country. I am aiming for a pretty high gpa (around 3.8).

Schools in America that I consider: UW Madison, University of Florida, University of Arizona, ASU, Cal poly slo. Is it even possible to be admitted to one of these schools as an international transfer student and how hard would it be?

It would depend on your grades in the first two years in your country and your ability to pay. Little or no financial aid for internationals at those schools.

Why would you want to transfer to an American university after two years at a European university?

Odds are that you’d spend the next 1-2 years at the American university taking mostly general education courses. Your coursework from Europe probably fulfills most of the requirements for the American major already, but not the general education requirements (such as math, history, literature, foreign language, etc).

If you want to transfer anyway, you need to read each university’s transfer admission requirements. Many (esp public) universities require that junior-level transfer students have all of their general education requirements completed prior to enrollment, which may not be possible for you. You can ask each university individually if your European high school credential would give you transfer credit towards their general education requirements.
