Okay, so I'm your typical average international student: 1870 SAT I (650M, 630W, 570CR) my grades in school were mostly around the B range.
I ended up with a 30% scholarship at a small LAC outside the US with a very american-patterned education, where I'm a freshman.
The past few months have been great, I love the main idea behind the instittion that we get to take small classes and study diffrent subjects in diffrent fields, but I hate the atmosphere of the actual school I'm attending. It's very uncompetitive and the students have little or no passion towards their work. I would LOVE to transfer to a LAC in the states or canada that would actually accept me with my grades. I wouldn't mind going to a big school that isn't very liberal arts-ish, tho, if it had a strong HUMANITIES AND ARTS program.
I'm most probably majoring in journalism, but I'm also considering creative writing, theatre, art and psychology.
Anything with tuition of over 30K, or not offering financial aid to international students is out of question. Yes, yes I know it's practically impossible to find a school that would offer money to an international student, so that's why I thought: CANADA= good schools, mostly in the 20K-ish range.
la la la what else???
oh and it has to be somewhere urban. suburban and rural campuses are out of question.
I was actually thinking FORDHAM for a while, it seems like the perfect match for me, but it's slightly expensive. Do you guys have any suggestions of similar, but cheaper schools?
Thank you! x

transfer students RARELY get any decent scholarships. And, int’l students would have an even harder time. The best scholarships are given to incoming freshmen because it helps the school’s rankings.

Fordham is not a possibility for you. Maybe Seattle U - I think they give “some” money to transfers , but I don’t know if they give to int’ls or if they give to transfers that are only freshmen with your SAT.

So, are your parents willing to pay $30k per year? If so, there are some possible schools. You may need about $32k though. I don’t know of any LACs that would work (maybe others do), but I do know some public states that would work.

I don’t necessarily mean scholarships, because ,as far as I know, most unis only offer scholarships to incoming freshman, rite? But just schools that cost less than 30K. I was actually considering applying to UBC or McGill as a reach: both cost around 19-22 K a yr. However; they both don’t have journalism programs so I was considering Concordia for a while, although I hate how the curriculum is so focused on the subject/ major area. If you know of any American counterparts to these institutions that offer a more well-rounded education, that would be great.
I don’t mind 32K but it may add up to a little over my budget with the living and residence expenses. But I’d still like to hear what schools you had in mind…
Seattle U sounds like a good option, I’m going to look into that. Thank you for bringing it up. :)

Are you saying that your budget is $30k-ish for tuition alone, and you’d have a separate budget for room and board and other costs???

How much TOTAL (tuition, room, meals, books, travel, personal expenses) is your annual education budget???

My budget is 30K total…but I good talk my parents into something that costs a bit more, but DEFINATELY not over 40K total.
