Hi all,
I am an international student from egypt and I applied to transfer to american universities but I was just worried about my college gpa. We have some sort of different system in calculating the gpa, so they aren't high as in american universities. My college gpa is slightly below 3.0/4.0 but I was the valedictorian at my high school. My question is will it differ that I come from a totally different system or will I be competing with americans having a high gpa ? and it would be great if u chance me for the following universities.

Emory university
University of washington--seattle
University of maryland--college park
Rutgers
UMass amherst
University of Illinois-- urbana champaign
University of Illinois chicago

Thanks guys from any input. appreciated.

Along with your transcript, your college should send something describing the grading system. US colleges will recalculate your gpa so that what they evaluate is consistent for all candidates.

@entomom thanks a lot, do you have any idea about the cut offs of these universities ?
and will I have a disadvantage being an international transfer student ?

For gpa information, go to the college websites, for instance, Emory:

[Transfer Students | Emory College of Arts and Sciences Admission](Transfer Applicants | Emory University | Atlanta GA)

In general, it’s admissions is more difficult for Intl. applicants. However, many schools are increasing the admission of Intl. students who can afford to pay the full cost of attending.
