International transfer student- different gpa system ?

Hi all,
I am an international student from egypt and I applied to transfer to american universities but I was just worried about my college gpa. We have some sort of different system in calculating the gpa, so they aren't high as in american universities. My college gpa is slightly below 3.0/4.0 but I was the valedictorian at my high school. My question is will it differ that I come from a totally different system or will I be competing with americans having a high gpa ? and it would be great if u chance me for the following universities.

Emory university
University of washington--seattle
University of maryland--college park
Rutgers
UMass amherst
University of Illinois-- urbana champaign
University of Illinois chicago

Thanks guys from any input. appreciated.

Each college and university has its own way of dealing with foreign academic records. Manhy require qpplicants to have their records evaluated formally by [World Education Services - International Education Intelligence](http://www.wes.org/) or a similar organization. You should contact each of the institutions on your list, and ask them what they would prefer you to do.
