Internationals, How Did You Made It?

Hello internationals and non-internationals applicants, I am new in this site and have found very nice advice from other users, but still wondering many things and always questioning my self about How to make it?

I am planning to study Electrical Engineering in the US, have already graduated and taken SAT and Toefl (scores and other info shown bellow) but I haven't applied to any university because of my low SAT scores, due to the fact that the engineering schools I have looked at, require a much higher score than the one I did. Next SAT in my country is on MAY, and I haven't enroll to any university in my country yet. SO I would like to know, WHAT should I do?

I understand that with a low SAT engineering schools are impossible to get in. But there might be some that have rolling admissions or up coming deadlines. If you happen to know any one, I would appreciate if you could name some bellow.

I did not study at an american school in my country, so SATs and other test as well as advice on this topic were hard for me to find. However, Some of my classmates came to study english in the US. Once they become proficiet enough, they would apply to US universities. I graduated on December 2012, and I really really want to study engineering in THIS COUNTRY as it promotes my career (Electrical Engineering). Should I do the same?, because otherwise, I'll stay in my country and wait untill I retake the SAT and then apply on august of 2013. That's a lot of time to spend only preparing for the SATs, and a "GAP" that will not be well considered by the admission officers... I didn't enroll to any university in my home country either, so studying english in the US will fill this gap good enough to be considered as a freshman?

If you ahppen to know any other way to GET IN, other than those above, I mean it, It would be of GREAT HELP...

THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE SPEND A LITTLE OF THIER TIME ON THIS AND CONGRATS TO THE BRAVE INTERNATIONALS WHO MADE IT..HERES SOME BACKGROUND INFO THANKS AGAIN:

Graduation date and class rank: Dec 2012, 12/167 top 10%

GPA: 6/7(my country's grading system) 3.1 (US system)

Toelf score: 90 iBT

SAT reasoning: 1480 (I know, I know, Poor for engineering) CR 450, MAth 500 Wr 530

Extra curriular and volunteer activities: Military service and community service

See if you can use a workbook for the SAT. Make sure you are aware that financial aid is limited for international students, so if you don’t have the funds, you need to make sure you are aware that monies are hard to come by for an impacted major.

You really need to increase that SAT. I notice that your TOEFL score is a bit low too, so I have a feeling your SAT score will increase if you improve your English. My suggestion is to read, read, read, and then read some more. And get as many SAT practice tests as you can, but save the CollegeBoard practice tests for last because those are the ones most similar to the real test.

I don’t think a gap year will be viewed negatively if you spend it doing something worthwhile.

dude.
500 math is not ok. did you take math subject?

a gap year will be viewed positively if you use it for something productive.

You really need to improve your Math score, especially since you want to study ENGINEERING. Aim for 700+, if not 800. I’d also recommend taking a gap year and using that time to work on your English. Judging by your TOEFL and SAT scores, you do need to improve your English to “survive” in an American university anyway.

If you feel like SAT isn’t for you, maybe you can try ACT. The English part is significantly easier, though the Math will be more challenging and there’s also a Science section.

You should maybe also consider retaking the TOEFL. With prep you should get over a 100! Otherwise, colleges will question your English which is certainly not gonna help you in the admission process
