Lkshmi: toefl is not required for those who have >600, do you mean for Brown or..?

mind posting yr sat1 scores?

Lkshmi: toefl is not required for those who have >600, do you mean for Brown or..?

mind posting yr sat1 scores?

:)

toefl can be waived off for most places if u have sat cr >670

isn't 670 a bit too high?

but if it's true, wut about exactly 670? no waiver?

siona*, I have just seen your stats. and believe me when I say they're A LOT better than mine! :(
I know for sure the toefl is waived if you have the CR score>600 for Brown. You should check with the univ you're applying.
as for my sat scores, sorry for not posting them, but I really think I have a chance of major improvement(the first time I took the test I was a little bit nervous and not quite prepared and did some stupid mistaes, like gridding incorrectly my anseres on my answer sheet, and then I realized what I had done, but I had no time to change it, and then during the rest of the test I couldn't think about anything else but the stupidity I had comitted...so you can guess....anyway my CR is <700 and I really hope I can improve it).

the point abt CR > 670 is that cornell for example states cr >650 gives a toefl waiver and quite a lot other places do not state but on request grant the waiver..

The waiver is given for gud cr scores which as per local competition is around a def. 660-670+ and that is why i state a 670 coz above that nobody cares a damn abt the toefl score

lakshmi, sure you will emprove your scores,in the end, it all comes down to techniques and practise:) i remember scoring 620cr on a model sat(got dizzy about it:)) but eventually it all comes to place, so just relaxxxxx:)

and for maths&physics: look at scoring 800s as a national duty, you're romanian, over here you are considered to be living math legends:))

btw, what do you plan majoring in??

well, I do intend to major in math :D
btw, I'm still not sure about what type of degree to choose. I plan to become an univ proffesor(hope I will succed :) ), thereofere it would be better for me to get a ScB, but then again I also want to take courses in humanities(like French, German, Philosophy) and am not sure if I will manage to do this and pursue a ScB degree. What do you guys say? What should I pick?

collegewoes.. n ppl here. was jus hit by a total disappointment. under some circumstances i can no longer apply to the states. yea. but i had planned to take chem n math II dis sat. anyone noes wat's the college board's refund policy like?

I don't know if they'll give you ANY refund. you should go to their web site, or pay them a phone.

I knew someone who was Romanian in my school (I'm in Bucharest still) and she got accepted by Vassar last year with a VERY generous financial aid packet. (As in, she only has to pay US $ 2,000 the first year!). I'm unsure what your Stats and grades and extra curriculars are like, but I'm sure if she can do it, you know! (male or female?) I'd recommend Science...

IzzyJ what school are you in, at bucarest? I might have seen you in June at the sat. am I right? I'm also coming in Bucharest this week for my sat 2. and btw...where are you applying?

Oh, I just realized something... It should be "Applying" instead of "Appling". tilting head But it seems REALLY cute this way. :P

Lakshmi, I didn't take the SAT in June, took it in May. Sorry. grin But I did take the SAT I/II's in December 2004 and January 2005. But I am taking the SAT II also next Saturday. scared Math IC again and Literature. Possibly World History but I doubt it cause IB History concentrates mostly on European History (WWI, Hilter's Germany, Stalin's Russia, WWII and the Cold War).

I'm a little apprehensive looking at the lists other int'l students put up. So many are shooting for the Ivies or the "Hidden Ivies" or the other Tier I uni/colleges.
Here's my VERY tentative list (need to cut it down and balance it):

Bates, Carleton, Macalester, Mount Holyoke, Middlebury, Wesleyan (as a Freeman Asian Scholars, but I doubt I'll get it as preference's given to those who live in their home country), Cornell COLLEGE, Drake Uni, Wellesley, Kent State Uni...

And in Canada: UToronto, York U, Carleton University, U of Waterloo and Brock Uni. I don't think it's worth applying to McGill - I'll be sure to get shot down!! :)

ok...so I've mistaken you for someone else. seems though we'll meet this saturday(math 2c, physics&french). :)
still, you haven't answered me, what's the name of your highschool? :P
btw...I also get a bit scarred when I see other people's stats....but I'm still aiming for an Ivy (meaning Brown)....I love that school and I thought I deserve a chance. :)
there are some of the univs in my Rd list in yours too....but right now I'm mainly thinking about my ED at Brown.

Written French? shudders I'm not a francophobe. I'm more of a... language-phobe. I can't learn languages well whatsoever. And I detest physics, too. grin I find it incredibly hard and too much math is involved and thinking in 3-D.

AISB's your testing center in Bucharest, isn't it? I could give you a tour of it. I know it well. Very well.

A former classmate got into UPenn and past seniors into Dartmouth, Cornell and Brown. I'm sure you'll do fine.

What were your scores for SAT I? And are you taking the Romanian Baccalaureate?

yes....as far as I know everybody takes the Romanian Baccalaureate. As for my sat...my CR and W scores were in the mid 600's but really hope for an improvement(meaning above 700) for the nov sat.(really hope I'll do fine).
there's only one test center in Bucharest so I guess that's the one. is it really far from the University Square in Bucharest(I aproximately know where it lies...but how much time will it require for me to arrive there)? (I don't understand why they changed the center...)

Lucky you. My Writing Score was 610. :( But my math was okay - didn't break 700, but CR was pretty good. But I'm not retaking it in November cause that would mean either going to Iasi or Arad and that's too far for my parents to send me.

It's far from University Square...AISB, (my school, in case you didn't get the hint), is actually closer to the two airports. It is VERY much out of the city. And with the rains and floods coming among, I would have to say - make sure you leave EARLY Saturday morning!

I know you're going for Brown ED, but if you don't get accepted, but what schools are you going for RD as backups?

yeah..I'm also going to Arad in nov...it's nearer from where I live....But in Bucharest I have a place to stay at...so...I would have preffered coming to Bucharest...but this is...
well I'm also applying to Dartmouth, Colgate, Williams, Vassar(still have many others on my list...haven't decided yet which others I will apply... but these are for sure)
btw...I did get the hint about your school :)

Lucky. I rather wish I could have somewhere to stay in Iasi or Arad so I could convince my parents to let me take the November SAT's. sigh

Wow. I'm amazed at the list of colleges the international students have. It's all so selective, but more than that...hard and demanding. a little envious and scared If this is the pool I'm competing with and my only "hook" is diversity, I very much doubt I'll get accepted by my reachs! It'd be cool if you got into Vassar. awed Like my former classmate. (Have you been haunting PrincetonReview as I have, feverishly reading "Student Says" and the rankings for rooms, lifestyle and all that? sheepish grin I love that!)

haven't done much of that("student says").....only a little bit on the internet....
also,I think Vassar would be my next choice if I don't get into Brown(hopefully that won't be the case) :)
as for the nov sat, the deadline has already passed so even if you had where to stay in Arad(when I registered only the Arad center was still available) you couldn't register any more.
and btw...don't get scarred by the competition, do your best!...many people can say whatever they want in these forums ;)

Oooh...I highly recommended PrincetonReview's "Student Says". Don't take it all too literally embarrassed blush but it's quite an eye opener. I'll cross my fingers that you get into Brown. Your stats seem quite good.
Yeah, I know the deadline had already passed. I really should have signed up at the same time I signed up for this Saturday. Dammit, unfortunately I'm sick and I'm a little worried that's throw off my SAT II scores. Damn you, SAT II's!
So...people say whatever they want, eh? arched brows Maybe a few exaggerations here and there... :P
