Internet Speed

Hey, could someone at UVa go to this site:

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

and report their results? Just curious...

Thanks.

UVA internet is pretty fast… I wouldn’t worry about it. I know I did that test during the school year at some point (forget why) and it was in gbps I am pretty sure.

I’m just a bit worried about this page:

[Network Capacity Management in Student Residence Areas](<a href=“ITSWeb Home - UVA ITS”>http://www.itc.virginia.edu/network/dormnetworks.html)

…which contains the following line:

“Each machine has an overall rate limitation of 512kbps (1/3 of a T1 connection) for inbound prioritized traffic, 512kbps for inbound unprioritized traffic.”

That is ridiculous; slower than my cell phone connection and not even fast enough for a YouTube video. Perhaps I’m reading that wrong, or it just hasn’t been updated in a while?

Oh, and in case you’re wondering why I’m concerned about the speed of a college’s Internet connection: yes, I am a geek. :D

"Page Updated: 2006-08-15 "

The network speed is quite good.

its really fast… i have heard about it

I got 5.2 Mbps connected through VPN from 3000 miles away.

I keep forgetting to do the test on Stacks wired. A bunch of us in there were trading music one night, and plugged in, and it was RIDICULOUSLY fast. Like, transfered an entire song in less than two seconds.

Use Mojo for sharing music

+1 for Canuck’s comment
