Internship freshman year?

One of the reasons I chose Princeton is because of the connections they have  I was hoping to get an internship the summer of freshman year as a computer science major (coming in with minimal cs experience). I was wondering how likely that would be? I’ve read about lots of princeton freshman landing internships but I have no idea how much experience they had with computer science before enrolling and that may have given them an advantage during interviews. Also I think someone during preview told me they usually recruit early in the year (during fall i think) and that doesn’t give any time at all for me to develop a strong cs background. However, I’ve talked with some princeton students on facebook that were helping me make my college decision and one told me that some freshman do come in with 0 experience and get an internship during freshman year.

They do but depends on what you’re looking for. Princeton has some programs like the keller center entrepreneurship internships and internship programs with stipends that are a bit easier to nab than an actual internship on the wider job market, so freshman are able to grab these.

I would think that you don’t have to rely on your university’s career placement center to get your internship. With the internet, you can do a lot of work on your own searching out companies and making connections. 20 years ago when I graduated, this would not have been possible. I’m not saying don’t use Princeton’s resources, but just don’t limit yourself to those.
